![]() Absolutely. That's why I enjoy tearing this car apart, I'm after familiarity. Still a PITA but I enjoy learning. My photo booth is sponsored by glad trash bags and kb home center island, seems to be working out great lol.
Over the weekend I picked up this GR TMIC for a steal. The ej205 has a vf39 & sti pinks so I figured why not upgrade the TMIC as well. Anyway, my gut feeling was to clean it, boy am I glad I did..... ![]() yes, all of this was inside the tmic ![]() ![]() Ended the night with setting valve lash. LH Head .008 & .011 consistently, RH head .008 & .011, cyl 2 exh .012. ![]()

![]() YEEEEEEEE Made some progress on the engine assembly.
If I could pick some brains for a minute, your assistance would be appreciated-I would like to BAR this engine does cobb seem like the best tuning platform for something like this? Or tactrix & a laptop make the most sense "bang for the buck." I plan to let Yimi handle the tune, but can I get some insight on what setup is ideal for something like this? ![]() ![]() ![]() love this tool ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() Cobb is easier for OTS tunes and a quick way to watch and monitor the car.
For my 2002 I looked at the options of going AP or Open Source and decided that for $200 and a spare laptop I would go Open Source. I picked up a Dell Venue 8" tablet that runs Windows x86 and once I get my wideband crap sorted out and able to be read by the ecu the only reason I'll need a laptop is to make changes to my tune. RomRaider is crazy simply to use and there is a lot of good information on RomRaider forums and such to help a guy out. If you have a good reliable tuner that is easy to get a hold of it shouldn't be much of an issue either. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks like bits of plastic? Where would that have even come from? Or maybe accidentally fell in during storage there after being pulled from the car? Also the trash bag photo backdrop is treating you well! Haha |

![]() IDK what's going on, but I find myself obsessing over details. I just couldn't forget those parts store PCV hoses I have, that are just too bulky for the fitting size. With the engine looking "clean" I couldn't be ignored any longer, so, I called up Subaru of Ontario and ordered some up. Going over my cylinder head images, looks like I missed one.
![]() with passing state ref in mind, I'll be using this stocker. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() HAHA Yeah, I don't care for the PCV system that much to be up working on it every 5 secs. A few bucks for a piece of mind is worth it.

![]() Fantastic work, really like the powder coat choice.
With BAR cert being your goal, I think you should find out what their latest requirements are (i.e. a dealer certifying that the ecu has not been flashed etc.) They truly are insane with their requirements. |

![]() Thanks Kaos!
I've heard of them requesting that as of recently. My friend had a civic EX, that he converted to a civic SI, swap, ecu, interior, everything. It was stock but the BAR insisted that he went to honda for the certification. They are off the rocker right now and I've been seriously thinking of this for the past week. With their strict requirements, I now wonder if I've screwed myself by installing thermal gaskets (i can't find anything about them being illegal) and the STI cams (a but more lift, but on a "stock map" pause for concern). Presumably when WRX guys upgrade, they usually go VF39 & STI pinks. When I purchased the car, the turbo was long gone. Since I had a spare, I did install a VF39 as the pinks were still there. All of that spells get a tune IMO. Which I was ok with until.....I remembered BAR asks for the dealer certs-By then, my current configuration was already in "full swing." Other thoughts I've had around the topic: How close is my config. to an 04 STI ECU; can it run well enough on the factory programming less AVCS codes and pass? can I delete AVCS codes and get by a dealer cert (may require knee pads)? |

![]() Sam, I appreciate it. Just giving it my best budget efforts.
![]() ![]() radiused transitions on the stock manifold, smoothened casting about 3" down, nothing fancy. ![]() ![]() "a lil paint goes a long way" ![]() Back to stock for now - bricks will be shat, state ref is coming. [Why the color variations? Let me bore you: It was sometime ago that I was testing clear zinc but the parts were far too worn and I tossed them aside (out if sight, out of mind). Realizing some pcs. were missing from the manifold, I dug them back up. I'm trying to button-up this whole ordeal as missing parts are on order. It's the last of the last before the engine is "ready." Overkill Syndrome: I was in the mood to correct the hues and went looking for my silver paint. All of a sudden I couldn't find my can(s). Thinking to myself I just had the paints yesterday, all in a row. Lightbulb; My cheap buddy came by today talking about his ROTAS and decided to borrow my black (dude it's only $4.00 a can), well incidentally he also grabbed the silver, killing that dream of paint matching leaving us with the holy trinity of colors] ![]() |

![]() @JDMJnky, as I understand it any map other than factory will cause the dealer to not certify you. Yay CA.

![]() I see you radiused the up-pipe. Did you throw the gasket on? I only ask because I know the gasket hole can be smaller than the pipe diameter.

![]() I did sir, in post 106 I have scribe lines on the flanges, may be a bit hard to see. I radiused all edges w/in 1.5mm +/- .5mm of those scribes. The gasket kit I purchased left me with two choices; Set A: being almost spot on with my work or Set B: 2mm larger than each radius. I chose A.

![]() Spent some time reading about a possible dilemma I've created by putting "the cart before the horse," in the mods department. So, this is for all ECU/programmers/Tuners/Members with some experience. If you wish to answer this in messenger that is fine with me or if you care to shine some light on an ecu solution-in messenger, I'd appreciate it. In regards to the mods mentioned above and ecu issues that I may face, would it be fitting to say, I'm on the right path if I were to choose R.R'dr to hornswoggle "checksum?"
