On that note, it seems the number of "vaccine hesitant" people at work is rather depressing - "wanting to do more of their own research" (how? they have a inside line into a lab the general public doesn't have?) or waiting for more proof of efficacy or safety of some sort (maybe the vaccines should have been marketed like all the prescription meds on TV). C'mon, the lizard people aren't that bad, and the 5G reception is fine...
Id say more people are concerned about long term side effects and not so much with dropping dead right away from the vaccine. That said, how do you reassure those that are hesitant that this won't have any long term side effects. I'm sure there's some explanation in the medical community.

My wife's office (mental health clinic) got their second (Moderna) jabs last Friday. They were all laid up in a group txt commiserating on their flu-like symptoms on Saturday.

My step-dad (71) finally got an appointment to get his first tomorrow, after failed attempts to sign up the past two weeks (due to them filling up so fast).

WA Dept of Health's phase finder doesn't have a phase for me.. it just tells me that I'm not eligible to take it. I'm fine with that, but I just kinda wish they'd just make up a 'phase' to put people in to make it seem like they have a plan beyond the most vulnerable.

"We don't have a spot for you.. Don't contact us, we'll contact you when we're ready for you." =

"Due to your lack of serious comorbidities we have placed you in the Purple Nurple Phase." =

The only place I could trace back to was the doctors office I had been at 8 days before for my physical, and I found out that doctor and his family all got covid at the exact time I got those symptoms. Again, likely that I had it.

That aside, my wife's aunt and her family for sure had it (positive) and their doctor told them that even after recovery they still had to get that vaccine when it was available since the antibodies don't last very long.
so the doctor thinks that the antibodies developed by the vaccine will last longer

Almost had a little bit of a moral dilemma about the vaccine yesterday, but was saved by bureaucratic red tape.

MA just started a new policy a couple of days ago that caregivers who help bring a 75+ year old in for a vaccine can also get one themselves. My sister had finally been able to book my 89 year old dad for his first shot next Tues, and needed me to take him. She's already had both of hers, since she's a PT working in a hospital. So I was debating whether it would be right to take one that should rightfully be going to a higher-risk person while the state is still seeing major shortages.

But it turns out that the option only exists at the 4 huge mass vaccination facilities in MA -- Gillette stadium, Fenway park, and two other sites that are WAY too far away to take him to. And his appointment isn't at one of those, so dilemma avoided, and I'm back to hoping I can get one some time in 2021 before the end of summer.

It's kind of funny and sad that as soon as Gov. Baker made that announcement, all kinds of ads started popping up on Craig's list with people looking to pay seniors $100 to $200 to drive them to the vaccination site and pretend they were a caregiver. Any time there's a way to game the system, you'll find plenty of people taking advantage of it. And it's something that definitely could have been avoided if the last Administration has let the professionals drive the pandemic response, instead of letting a bunch of family and amateur hacks be in the driver's seat.

In the beginning, a year ago, I was deemed essential by the government and have been going to work through all of this. But with the vaccine we are not deemed essential (so far). Doesn't seem to line up.

Weird that 94-100% of the anaphylaxis reactions were in women, though.

EDIT - the math in the tweet is wrong. They moved the decimal the wrong way. The rate is 0.000367%.

That's a death in addition to the death of the Miami doctor I posted about. But generating antibodies that kill platelets is a very real, though very rare, side effect of one or both of the vaccines.

The doctor died of brain hemorrhage due to a zero platelet count. This guy referenced here sounds like anaphylaxis.

Starting to hear more from family members (all over 65) who have gotten the 2nd dose of vaccine.

All of them have reported it knocked them on their ass for 3 days.

My mom said its been over a week and she still has muscle weakness and soreness at the injection site and can't lift her arm above horizontal. She said its improving, but still impacting her day to day tasks.

My dad had swelling for days at the injection site, along with a rash that developed down his entire arm.

Both had fever, chills, and muscle twitches/spasms for 3 days.

My mom took Tylenol after hers (even though the recommendation is to not do that) and my dad didn't take anything.

My mom said the Tylenol definitely made the symptoms more tolerable the first few days.

I think they were actually offered a choice, and my mom told them "The one that doesn't make you sick!"

Wife has a friend that is a paramedic, healthy, our age. She said the same thing...2nd dose put her out of commission for 2 full days. She was working on day 3, but felt like crap.

Not sure which one she got.

My MIL is up for #2 this week. My wife is already planning to go stay with her a couple of days to help out while MIL is down.

My aunt and uncle had theres last week with no side effects.

Got an appointment for my dad for tomorrow through Kaiser Permanente. Wish I can get one at the same time too like in MA since I'm his caregiver. The online system won't even let me try unless I declare I'm a heathcare worker with proof of employment.

Everyone I know that got the 2nd dose had bad side effects. That includes my wife who had no side effects with the first dose. She said it sucked bad. I had none with dose 1, but will let you know how it goes after number 2.

So I'm due for my annual noaa diver physical. Realized I had covid symptoms (exact symptoms posted for the vaccine above) 5 days after my physical last year.

I was fairly ok the first 24 hours after my 2nd Moderna, just tired and soreness, but by the evening of the 2nd day I was feeling awful with body aches and a fever. I took 3 Advil/Tylenol combo and went to bed and was all good the next morning.

I fear this is where my MIL is headed. She's good so far, just tired.

I've told my wife to be ready for it to get worse tomorrow.

^ I suspect the commercial real estate market for office space is going to tank very, very hard over the next year or so.

it was a combination of lease ending which I knew before covid.. and then that place being a ghost town for the last year.

Im for it.. the people that remained in office are generally more lax in dealing with this topic, or just straight disagree because youtube. I'm ok not comingling, I'm newish here so it's not like I'm leaving anything behind really by never going in again.

My employer announced a new building that will have some "hotel" offices and conference rooms and not enough room for everyone to work there. The reason I started working remotely 2 years ago was because of the building - the giant room I shared with a dozen other developers had a perfectly controlled 72 degree environment With a 10 degree precision.

The optional setup if I were to choose to commute to other location wouldn't be personal desks, communal bullpen kind of area which seems logic contrary.

Also, other location literal 20.7 vs 20.3 miles drive.. ZERO BENIFIT to yes.
