Why do you suggest 225?
There is Tire Rack winter tire promotion and there are manufacturers' promotions. May I combine both? Krzys

For you wisconsin people out there. I'm in madison and started using the Dunlop Winterfroce 3d last year. They are AMAZING. I never got stuck in the snow. Whenever the weather forecast tells us there's gonna be a Winter Storm Warning, I gas up the car and go for a drive late a night to have fun.
I decided on the dunlop because of what luke had said, these tires are great for just all around winter stuff.... Being in the city of Madison, they plow often/quick enough for me to have some slushy/Wet/Dry roads therefore these dunlops are great for that type of driving. I've also driven to Chicago on my winterforce tires with absolutely no problem. Normally I can safely go 5-10mph faster than everyone else on the road without any slippage. |

make: Subaru model: Legacy GT location: Scappoose Oregon (near portland) tires only or winter package: Tires only. I've got some beater 15" rims that I want to run dedicated snow/ice tires on (195/xx/15). Where I live we can get snow but it's not usually more than a couple inches, if I go up into higher elevations (to a friends house) he gets 6+ inches. I made it up to his house last year in that snow with bald RE-92's, that was a little unnerving. Anyway, I don't have lots of money and was looking at some Nokian tires but I don't know if I need beefy snow tires. Something that would handle up to a couple inches would seem to be fine but there's also ice out here as well, last year a huge section of the highway froze over. I've got dedicated summer tires, what do you suggest I get for a winter tire? I believe I'm near the edge of the snow belt you're talking about General Altimax Artic would be a good choice Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-06-2008 at 02:41 PM. |

Snow tires
Hello Luke, Thank you for taking your time to post.
I have a 2007 WRX wagon. It has 17inch alloys. I need winter tires and rims and having a really hard time getting some basic questions answers. #1 Can steel rims be used on this WRX? Some say they are too heavy. some say they won't fit over the larger rear disc brake calipers. we have 16" steelies which will fit your car ... $55.00 each #2 Is there any cheap options out there that would compare to steel rims? least expensive alloy I have is $97.00 each #3 Nokian low profile tires? any comments good tires however we do not carry them Thanks Jamis Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-06-2008 at 02:53 PM. |

make: Subaru model: Impreza WRX Wagon location: Boston MA, Central MA, NH for skiing tires only or winter package: Tires only. Stock 16 inch wheels Just moved back to the region after 8 years away. I do ALOT of driving all over mass for work, sometimes up to 400 miles a day. Mostly highway miles but some back roads in the mountains. So far I've been looking at the Dunlop M3/3D (not sure of the difference) I do drive VERY aggressively when its dry or wet with my current setup, 18inch Falken FK452 and stiff coilovers (JIC-FLA2). What would you recommend for the winter? Also Do you recommend different alignment settings for the winter? Dunlop Winter Sports would be a good choice but, with the amount of driving and your professed style of driving you may want to think about the Pirelli Sotto Zero Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-06-2008 at 03:03 PM. |

Something good to get me there in January (will have to drive through the mountains twice) and I'm in the military so I won't have time to stop and "get stuck", kinda wanna push through regardless of the weather. (to a point, safety is key) this is probalby the toughest one yet .... with everything taken into consideration I would have to suggest the Pirelli Sotto Zero my second choice would be the Goodyear Ultra Grip Perfromance Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-06-2008 at 03:22 PM. |

Make several trips to mountains for skiing etc. Have dedicated summers and also all seasons for those in between times, so would like a true snow/ice tire. Thanks Blizzak WS60 for the Ski trips and mountain passes Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-06-2008 at 03:06 PM. |

make: Subaru model: WRX wagon location: Seattle tires only or winter package: tires only on stock 17" wheels I have been eyeing the Blizzak WS60's and the Michelin X-Ice on your site. Both 215/45-17. Most of my driving will be on decently cleared, paved roads with the occasional trip up the mt. passes. But we get some snow and ice in the lower elevations at random times of the winter. What do you think would be a better 'fit' for me? Michelin X-Ice XI2 Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-06-2008 at 03:05 PM. |

make: Subaru model: WRX Wagon location: Northern Va, some snowboarding trips tires only or winter package: Tires only, 16x6.5 stock wheels. Luke, I have two sets of wheels available. One set is dedicated for summer tires primarily for Autox. I need to replace the oe re92s that are currently on my stock wheels and am trying to decide what to get. The northern VA winters aren't terrible, and even the times I go snowboarding I usually don't see huge amounts of snow. Since I plan on running the stock rims for the better part of the year would it make sense to just go with another all season? I feel like dedicated winters would both be overkill for my location, and would get torn up by driving in the dry. Thoughts? Thanks high performance winter tires are very good in the dry they just don't like warmer temps and the way you worded it the summer/AutoX tires will be the primary tires in the summer so, I would look at a real HP winter tires like the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-06-2008 at 05:31 PM. |

I agree with Luke - I have the WS-60 on 17" rims and love them. This will be my second winter with them on. Great on ice and packed snow.

make: Suburu model: WRX sedan location: Evanston, WY tires only or winter package: Tires only for OEM wheels Primarily drive through town to work and back. Trips to SLC, Utah once in a while via I-80 to do shopping every month or two. Drive to ski areas from Evanston to the Park City/Logan resorts. Lots of hard-packed snow in town, ice later in the season as snow melts and refreezes. Highways well kept. Was considering the Dunlop 3D. Any others I should consider? While I love the 3D's and think they are a great tire due to their versatility, for your use I would lean more towards the LM25 Blizzak for it's superior snow and ice traction Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-08-2008 at 12:53 PM. |

make: Subaru model: WRX wagon location: Rochester, NY 65% of time, Philly 35% of time tires only or winter package: Winter package Looking at the Sport Edition A7 alloy's or a steelie, Main concern is the amount of salting that Rochester and Philly do (a lot), will this alloy last me 4 winters? For tires, thinking about Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D or the Blizzak LM 25, just based off reviews and popularity. Maybe a WS-60, I dont think its that snowy where I am, so maybe the WS-60 are a little extreme? The Sport Edition A7 has a very durable finish exactly for that reason. The WS 60 would be my choice for your car due to the fact your primary area is prone to lake effect snow which can add up faster than removal is possible Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-08-2008 at 02:21 PM. |

Love the Revo1's ... even own a set ... the unique rubber compound that Bridgestone uses is fantastic in the ice and snow. Last edited by Luke@tirerack; 10-08-2008 at 02:25 PM. |
