Porsche 718 Cayman GT4
Porsche was seen the other day in northern Europe while perfecting what will become the range-topping 718 Cayman version taking the shape of the mighty GT4. Positioned above the recently launched GTS, the new crown jewel of the Cayman family appears to be virtually undisguised, thus hinting that an official reveal is right around the corner. Our money is on the Geneva Motor Show set to open its doors at the beginning of next month.
There are quite a few differences between the GTS and the forthcoming GT4, starting at the front where the redesigned bumper hosts enlarged air vents providing better cooling. Right below the hood, on the upper section of the bumper, there’s a wide slat akin to what the 911 GT3 / GT3 RS feature. Speaking of the higher-end GT3 models from the expansive 911 family, the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter gasoline engine is expected to trickle down onto the 718 Cayman GT4. It will allegedly be detuned, but it should stick pack more than 400 horsepower, so expect a bump in output over the previous GT4 of at least 15 hp. Corroborated with a very probable weight loss, the new iteration of the hardcore Cayman is shaping up to be faster and more agile around the corners than its predecessor. Getting back to the prototype at hand, the back of the car is also exhibiting some major changes compared to the GTS. The most obvious novelty is the addition of a fixed rear wing, along with a meaner diffuser featuring two large exhaust tips that no longer sit next to each other as they do on the GTS. While the taillights as well as the headlights appear to be virtually the same as those of the GTS, there could be some changes to further differentiate the two models. We are also expecting to see a re-tuned suspension, bespoke alloy wheels, and upgraded brakes to round off the package and make the GT4 justify what will be a significant premium over the GTS. By the way, the latter starts off at $79,800 in the United States. Considering a base 911 begins at $91,100, some folks will have to make a difficult decision: go with the Cayman GT4 or get a standard 911? Factor in the 718 Boxster Spyder, it will be quite tricky to pick one. Go to link for info and photos https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-sh...pecs-and-info/

I thought the rumor on the Spyder was A/C delete, radio delete, and sound insulation delete to save weight. I presume this transfers to the GT4 too. Thus the cars are slightly better on the track and much worse for daily use. I appreciate the engineering exercise to make a track toy available through a dealership, but it's utterly stupid on a street car. 99% of the people who will buy these cars aren't good enough drivers to notice the weight difference. The 0.1 seconds it will make anyone faster around their local HPDE track is worthless compared to the overwhelming discomfort on a hot summer day without A/C, or a long drive with a lack of sound insulation and radio to cancel out the tire and exhaust drone.

The rumour is it won't be turned down too much - 425HP to 450HP and PDK.

orsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport Flaunts Big Wing During Monza Test
Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport Flaunts Big Wing During Monza Test
Could feature a bigger 4.0-liter flat-six engine. Porsche had the Monza track all to itself earlier this week and aside from testing its new 911-based race car, it was also seen putting through its paces an update for the track-only Cayman GT4 Clubsport. We still haven’t seen the road-going version in official shots, yet testing is already well under way for its race car counterpart set to arrive after the regular model. Despite the extensive camouflaged applied onto the racer’s body, it’s already pretty obvious the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport will feature an enlarged wing to boost downforce at the rear axle. Since we started with the car’s derrière, one can also see the redesigned diffuser hosting the two exhaust tips that no longer sit together in the middle as these have been moved further apart from one another. The taillights will also be going through some changes in line with those of the refreshed Cayman GTS. As for the tweaks at the front, these are less noticeable, but some novelties must be hiding underneath the swirly disguise. Like the road-going 718 Cayman GT4 spotted mid-February without any camo, its race car alter ego is expected to feature a larger naturally aspirated engine with a bump in displacement from 3.8 to 4.0 liters. The previous pair of GT4 models borrowed the engine from the 911 Carrera S whereas the new ones are rumored to source the powertrain from the beefier 911 GT3. The attached spy video allows us to hear the PDK at work, while the road model – believed to get the RS suffix - will allegedly get a six-speed manual to the delight of purists. While the previous Clubsport was capped at just 400+ examples, Porsche has already announced plans to broaden the race car’s availability. Speaking with Sportscar365 earlier this year, the company’s GT motorsport boss Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, admitted: “We did not really cover the demand worldwide [with the first version]. We did not really push in sales; it was a new category and we see a huge demand now around the world, in the Clubsport series and also in emerging motorsports markets like China and Thailand.” Walliser went on to mention it’s going to have more power than the previous 380-hp version and will also boast additional downforce depending on what its road-legal sibling will feature. The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport will receive its customer debut at the beginning of next year. Meanwhile, the world premiere of the road version is likely slated to take place in the latter half of 2018 when Porsche could also decide to come out with the hardcore 718 Boxster Spyder. |

Porsche sales are more than double what they should be, if you chart sales vs the Fed-induced stock market bubble.
Will be real interesting when that pops. |

Glad to see them taking more "chances" (Pfft, it's a Porsche, it'll sell) on the Cayman. It deserves it.
