Default DIY $10 Remote oil pressure sender kit (installed pictures)

Didn't want to spend almost $50 shipped for a remote kit from Prosport. Instead I bought 12" grease gun hose (rated for 4500 psi) with 1/8" NPT size and 1/8" NPT fitting to build my own remote oil pressure sender kit.

Pictured below:
1. Prosport oil pressure sender.
2. Prosport oil gallery plug
3. Grease gun hose purchased from Home depot (~$7)
4. 1/8" NPT fitting from Home depot (~$1.50)

Thanks to Vision.dynamix for the idea.

Installed pictures from today (used heat reflective tape on oil pressure sender and applied a lot of dielectric grease)

Most important:

Cold idle (Prosport EVO digital gauge)

Ive got cars running these for years.

I had a kid show up to my house in a turbocharged S2000 with an aluminum T screwed directly into the head, and the Oil Pressure sender AND Turbo feed line directly on it. I noticed his car was leaking oil onto my garage floor. I poked around the engine bay, found out his T was cracked. He started the car and the T straight up snapped off.

T Grease gun hose got him back on the road.

Any Auto Parts store or even WalMart will have the hose. Theyre available 6-24"

I had a $42 stainless 3' braided hose with all the AN fittings you can handle so I could remote mount my sensor from a sandwich plate. Wish I would have seen this before. lol

I'm upset nobody had thought of this before I purchased one of those kits last year for my oil pressure gauge.

Good thinking guys!

Nice idea! I have a sandwich plate with oil pressure / oil temp senders attached waiting for me to install, but I'm liking this plan better.

Are there 2 spare galley plugs I can use? Or mount 2 sender units on one?

Is it generally more accurate to use the sandwich adaptor or the galley plugs?

Sandwich adapters are prone to leakage.

The oil galley under the alternator has the OEM Oil Pressure switch in it. There is no drawbacks to removing it, no CELs etc.

There is a second oil galley under the TMIC with nothing in it but a plug. That is the go-to spot for the first gauge.

You can use both these galleys without issue.

You can mount 2 senders in one with a T, however, remotely mounting an oil temp gauge isnt recommended, since it should be in flowing oil, and a T would put it at a dead end.

OK. So I can put in an oil pressure sender in the galley where the OEM pressure switch is, and an oil temp sender in the galley under the TMIC?

Sorry for the noob questions, but what is the dielectric grease for?

Sure, or the other way around. Doesnt matter.

Dielectric grease prevents corrosion of electrical contacts.

Great Idea!

You used the plug under the alternator, how is everything holding up?

This, kinda.

Most gauges use NPT fittings. However gauges do exist that use BSPT fittings. The thread pattern on these are close, not close only counts in horseshoes....so this wouldn't work for a BSPT gauge without adapters.

so is the factory galley plug that the dummy sensor plugs into npt? or bspt? can i just reuse the factory galley plug under the alternator or should i buy a new one?

Edit: also i went to install my oil pressure gauge (AEM) and the aem sending unit was .5mm too wide to screw into the factory galley plug. so it only got about a thread into it and wouldnt go any farther. cleaned up the treads with a tap and die and still didnt fit. the thread pitch matched so im guessing that the factory is npt. or could it be a machining error on aem's part? i love this idea and will be stoppping by home depot as soon as i get my answer(s)

Pretty sure the factory sensor is indeed BSPT.

Why not just mount the sender to a modified plug/ right on the block instead of making extra steps?
