Default Trade my 02 wrx wagon for an 03 Forester XS?

Hi, I have had my rex for a few months now and have come up with a few reasons I would like to trade it for:

-Its both my wife and my car and she can't drive stick, so I have to drive all the time. She was going to learn but hates it and now doen't want to anymore (trust me this topic is exhausted).

- we have mtn bikes and kayaks and love camping, I know the wrx can handle this, but I hate getting it dirty, let alone scratched.

- storage space looks much more usable and the ground clearance is sweet.

Ok, so thats it, and trust me I would LOVE to get an XT, but they are 8-10k more and it has to be a straight accross trade. So will I miss the turbo 2.0 too much? Or will the utility make it a mere memory?

oh and is an 02 wrx wagon 5sp 30k a good trade for an 03 FXS auto 50k?

How much did your straight line performance mean to you? I'd say the advantages of a Forester over a WRX wagon would be the +3 inches ground clearance, the more usable interior space, and maybe the insurance. If it is the XS model, then you get the all-weather package which includes the 3 power outlets, windshield wiper defrosters, the 6disc CD changer, and the heated front seats.

As loyal as I am to the Forester, you may miss your wagon's performance. If that didn't matter as much, then it's hard to go wrong w/the Forester.

Well, I did it.

I am happy so far, the handling is "different", not really worse. I am sure at the limits the wrx is better, but never hitting the limits was part of the reason I traded the thing.

It is much less peppy than the wagon, but not alarmingly so. I do like not having to downshift everytime I need to go due to lag, I have had two close calls in the wrx where I needed to punch it and had to downshift first (sometimes twice).

Overall I like the forester a lot so far, and an xt is already in the plans to replace my wifes cavalier in a few years. She is in love with the forester (and she can be convincing). That and 220 a year less insurance, reg gas and bit better mpg in town and i am sure it will only get better

thanks for the response!

I'm glad you two enjoy it. Credit the extra .5L of displacement for that low-end grunt. I agree it's nice not needing to fill up on premium all the time. Once you get a taste of the FXT, you'll be quite pleased. I have one, and we have two Forester XSs in the family, making a total of 3 Foresters, and 5 Subies in the last 3 years.

Good to hear, as soon as I started considering a forester I started seeing them EVERYWHERE. Weird how that happens...

It doesn't feel so sluggish now that I have had it for a day, more go down low, with a linear power progression, instead of the lag then punch in the kidneys the rex had. Gonna be great when the kayaks we ordered from costco come in, they will fit really nicely on the FXS, especially on the logging road shortcut to the ocean near my house (cuts 2.5 hours off the trip but its a little rough for the wrx).

does the trade seem fair? 30k 02 wrx for 50k 03 fxs? I saved the 3500 in tax I would have to pay if I sold privatly and bought, so it isn't really apples for apples...

stupid gov't, they get tax on the thing every time it sells, I should be getting free gas for the tax I pay...

fxt...mmmm
