Default Need help with my headunit install, please!

Ok, here is my super-noob problem. I have a Kenwood KVT815DVD headunit, it is a DVD unit with a flip-up screen. Its my old unit out of my old car. It still had the previous harness on it, I cut that off and reconnected all the wires into the new Subaru harness. However, I ran into a problem, and I'm confused as all hell, and I don't know where, or if, I still have my manuals from the box.

Check out these pictures (high res versions, 56k no), a few of them have questions on them.

From the looks of your pictures, the black wire on the radio harness is the ground. The black wire on the Subaru adapter is also a ground wire. Most people just ground the black wire from the radio harness to the chassis of the car and leave the black wire on the Subaru harness free. I'm guessing that you had the unit set up to show video when the car is moving. If so, the green wire tapped into the black one probably allows this by grounding the wire that senses the parking brake.

BTW that is a huuggee wiring harness.

that blue thing, i believe is just a connector for wires, basically it splices into the wires and creates a current so it is basically like putting a butt connector

with the black wires, i just connected them to the factory ground which on my 02 WRX is on the right side inside the double din pocket, maybe 3 or 4 inches inside in the middle...

so basically... i put those two black wires together in a butt connector and on the other end i put the factory ground wire in the other end, grounded is grounded lol

Thanks guys, you dummied it for me, now I understand. I tore my dash apart, so I know what your talking about now, thanks.

But, so that long ass black wire on the left, that can just stay capped? Thats how it was left when the car audio place took it out of my last car.

Ok, well, the good news, I got it installed! Everything looks and works great so far. I have yet to test the e-brake sensor override, I hope it works, but if it doesn't, I'm not going to worry about it now, I'm too TIRED!

The bad news, we do have casualties. My right thumb, the skin at the back of my finger nail (by the first knuckle) was ripped from it's original natural location as I was trying to pull the big white plug from the back of the stock headunit. Hurt like you have no idea. And still no bandaids in my apartment, I'll get some after I sleep, lol. But it will heal, I had to jimmy-rig a bandaid out of kleenex wrapped in blue painters tape, to stop the bleeding and to hold the skin back to where it used to be. That lasted halfway thru the rest of the install, then I had to reenforce it with electrical tape

I've been at it all night, thanks for the help, time to sleep a little.

Really? Everything is sharp? Never would have guessed that one O_o, lol, j/k.

If I did this for a living, I would have known what I was doing, and I would have known that was going to hurt, lol.
