Default Where can I find 91 octane in the Dallas area?

In the SMU/Northpark etc area. I checked several Shell stations and even 7 Eleven but only 87/89/93.

I talked to one of the Subaru of Plano guys and he told me there are a few around here..

Because my car is tuned for CA 91 and with the 93 here it is ****ing up the tune really bad and the engine is misfiring along with other things. I can't get tuned for at least another 2 to 3 weeks if that, so until then I want to put in 91 so my car will run better. THEN I will get a better tune for 93, but for now my car really needs 91! As odd as that sounds, my car will actually run better with 91.

........your saying that your car is running worse on a higher octane?... are you SURE there is not another problem?

could it be due to elevation (relative pressure) differences instead?

Well AZ/CA/NV gasoline is a lot worse than the rest of the gas in the united states. My car was tuned in every aspect to work with this gas, and my tuner and I believe that the 93 here is throwing off timing and whatnot.

Ever since I first put in the 93 octane here my car has been running a lot differently and the timing is off. I am fairly certain it is because of the gas, but we will see for sure once I take datalogs and my tuner and I look at them.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but who is your tuner? Not trying to start a flame war, or a flamm war, or flamm-fest. Just curious.

Mika
On here his username is Vaus, on i-club its EQ Tuning.

He does VERY good work, my car felt amazing after he tuned it. Too bad 3 days later it got shipped here and filled up with 93

Coo coo. From what I've read in past threads, the gas out in Cali/West coast is pure crap compared to this gas. Could be that the ECU is really liking the gas here and advancing timing quite a bit. It's definitely possible that your timing may be off.

What kind of EM are you using? Opensource, UTEC, or Cobb AP?

The bolded part is what we think it is. And I'm using the AP.

BTW are you a tuner or what?

How heavily modded are you? Just a turboback, or do you have all kinds of mods that are not on Cobb's "staged" tunes?

Mika
Well I would go back to just a turboback and flash to a stage 2 93 octane map but the EWG is keeping me from doing that. And all my parts and tools are at home in CA anyway.

And I don't want to waste the money I spent on the road tune.

I only have a few basic bolt ons: 38mm EWG/UP/DP/E/MBC @ 20PSI/Fuel Pump/Typhoon etc..

I kinda figured you weren't on the staged route, because you most likely would have flashed stage 2, 93 octane...

Only tuners around here for AP are Engine Logics in Houston and MZM in Austin. But that's not local, and it's not cheap. If you can't find 91, those are your best bets. I honestly don't know if there's any other tuners around here(DFW metro) that could help you. Could you e-mail Vaus your datalogs and he could send you some adjusted maps?

Yea thats what I'm going to do as soon as I can. He told me to talk to this guy at Subaru of Plano who he has been working with for remote tuning because they have a wideband sensor and other stuff, but that guy is busy for about a week or 2 (talked to him on Friday) so the reason I wanted the 91 was for the 2 weeks until we can get some datalogs etc

I actually made a thread asking about some good roads for datalogs because I am not familiar with the roads/traffic enforcement in this area.

So I take it Gotham Racing does not do AP tuning since you said the only 2 are in Houston/Austin?

I forgot about Gotham Racing. They may/may not tune the AP. Honestly, I'm not sure. MZM and EL were the only 2 tuners that came to mind. Gotham is kinda new. Nothing wrong with that, but MZM and EL have been around a bit longer.

If you have the streettuner then George might be able to tune you, I don't know if they have the protuner software.

Just so you know, George is at Gotham Racing. Petey forgot to mention that. Too much Schlitz tonight...
