Default Advice on Buying an SVX

I am thinking about buying an SVX. I have read many articles of pros and cons about them. I have also talked with a few owners about them. The main thing that I have been warned about is the transmission going out prematurely and the AWD going out. These are my main hesitation in buying one. I have also read about a few people who have swap a 6Mt out of an STI into these at an insane cost of $4,500. Any advice pro or con would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Subie Scott

Default svx's

I have had a couple of svx's and I loved them both.....the one thing I would say watch out for IS the transmission....I had a 92 and it only had 56k on it and it had already had the transmission replaced once.....then I had a red 96 and it had 74k on it and it was the original trans, but @ about 90k the transmission went out and I converted it to a WRX 5 speed and it wasn't that hard, just have to weld/fab a bracket for the clutch master cylinder and there are a couple of companies that sell a kit or will do it for you for less than $6k. I bought a used tranny for $1800 and it cost a total of less than $2800. Any Impreza/Legacy tranny will work auto or manual....STi naturally being the strongest. The manual made the car a beast, SO much more power. Very bad ass car and very fun either way and comfortable as a couch inside. Any Questions feel free to ask.......
