Where can you find the MRT exhaust for the RS?

I have looked at most of the usual sites I can think of, but can only find MRT stuff for the "New age" car... Any help would be appreciated...

If you got to MRT's Australian website...there is a link to all their US vendors.

What I did is contacted each of the US vendors via e-mail (out of my state, no sales tax) and asked them for a shipping quote. Then just buy from the vendor with the cheapest price...or best customer service...or who you like most.

True in a way...but when you add on shipping cost, import taxes etc etc it might get pricey

FYI I got my MRT exhaust (minus the exhaust can)...front section lightly ceramic coated, rest of it painted...from PA to CA for $440 including shipping.

That was from Langston Subaru. Great people there, best price I could find, zero problems.

And....IMHO....I believe it to be the best exhaust header design...straight tubes, as few bends as possible, as close to equal length as possible, not too huge in diameter, strong thick metal, great welds... Not beautiful really but more functional than the rest.

I definatly agree. BTW, are you running another exhaust with the headers? If so, are the MRT headers using the stock muffler bolt locations (IE so that anything using simular stock bolting locations would fit)?

um, nope. it's a totally different design than the stock headers, and besides, it has a high-flow cat built in.

i hope to order my header-back system shortly . . . when funds allow.

Slator is correct, the MRT does not bolt up to the stock cat location (and again, it contains its own cat).

It does bolt up to any rear muffler section that will bolt up to stock. You also cannot use any other mid pipe than MRT (unless it is custom made for it at a muffler shop).

Well...yes and no.

Prior I had a Borla header, stock cat section, custom non-resonated midpipe and Borla can.

Now I have the MRT header cat combo, MRT non-resonated midpipe and Borla can.

With the old setup the Borla can fit onto the midpipe like a sleeve...and the MRT midpipe uses a flange. So I had to have a flange welded onto the Borla can. That sucked, 'cause so far I've done all my mods myself...and I had to pay someone to do that. I gotta learn how to weld.

As for all the bolt/hanger locations...everything fit perfectly. In fact it all fits better then the Borla header setup did.

I posted a review on this...but to cover it again. Borla header sounds better, MRT performs better.

Fluid flows faster in a straight line.

i seem to remember dcrawford saying it was 2.25", which is fine for our cars.

and, IIRC, only the header is ceramic coated.

Yep....2 and a quarter inch. I'm 90% sure that's what it is.

And yes the header section is ceramic coated, the rest is painted black.

I highly recomend Langston...can't beat the price and they were a pleasure to deal with. Fanastic all around. And most importantly the RS has more power now.

Are you sure that it is ceramic coated? I emailed Langston, and they said that it is first coated with a process simular to aluminized then painted black, no ceramic coating.

The header is what they call "alloy painted", I think it is the same as our "aluminized", no ceramic coating, I had one customer send his to Jet hot, not sure what that cost though.
Fair warning about CEL's even though you didn't ask, some 2000 and 2001 get an occasional low cat efficiency code, not a fault of the exhaust, just certain production dates had a very small parameter for that set up in their ECU's
Freight is about $40 to $50 depending on muffler or not

I feel that it is the best header design as well (except maybe the Syms header, they're pretty simular, but not comparable in price

) The problem is that they are mild steel, with no stainless option. THis may not be a problem for the people who don't have chemicals thrown on the road, but I live in Wisconsin and mild steel exhausts do not last.

I would otherwise buy one in a minute.

I have heard of people up north getting 3+ years out of mild steel exhausts. If this is the case, you can get lots of use out of a ~$500 full exhaust...

You could almost buy 3 by the time you are up to the price of other comparable systems.

I just had my mrt refreshed...
When I purchased it, over a year ago, noone state side sold em. I got it for 800 coated, a/ flange pre cat... I've had an exhaust leak since I put it on, my own fault, I over tightened the flange, now it's bent. It's also been crooked from the start. Most reciently, a exhaust hanger broke off the muffler.

Yes I've had some fit and finish issues, nothing to compare to the Borla guys' repeated fractures though. The finish is short of fancy, but it works, and I feel it works well. So... if you are on a limited budget, and performance is your goal, go w/ a mrt complete system, I don't think money wise there is a better deal out there. Though the brullen system looks really nice, and when I looked at it, it appeared to be well made, the cost just seems to be a bit rich for me.
We'll see how the recient system fix stays. If it's solid, I'll be really happy, if It leaks again, I'll go about a more permant solution...

I have actually been invistigating this. The MRT header would be easy to duplicate, the hard part is finding someone to weld the Ti tubes for you (well, I don't have the resources to weld Ti anyway) The only real bend that *might* need to be custom made is the tubes from the header flange that bend from straight down to the back of the car. All the other bends or joints are only in two dimentions so any ol' bend can be used, just cut it to the right angle. Material wise, Ti isn't all that much more than good stainless (as far as tubes), its the fabrication. A custom header costs ~$1000.00, I can't imagine that a Ti header would be prohibitivly expensive if people are buying HKS, Cusco, and Syms headers for the WRX. IT just takes some work on your part, you won't be able to just go and pick it up when it is finished if you want a Ti header for a somewhat earthly price.

Ti is not good for turbo applications.

Well I live in Rainy Seattle, so i was wondering if I can put another layer of protecive coating on it? Like mabye a industral paint thats heat and weather resistant? Does that sound like a possiblity?

Just called Langston Subaru and Jet-Hot Coatings yesterday. The average price to Jet-hot a header (he doesn't know the shape/size of the MRT header) is gonna be around $190. I'm considering the 1300 type coating (great strength/looking/durability for N/A engines). The 2000 type is for forced induction and isn't the shiny finish as in the 1300. I'm sure that doesn't include shipping.

My plan was to order/pay for the MRT from Langston Subaru (thanks Brian M.), have them drop ship it to Jet-Hot coatings, pay Jet-Hot coatings to coat the Header only once they receive the header (and everything else), and have them ship it to me a few days later in it's original package. I'm, like, soo excited!!!

Well, I was looking at the wrong price chart. Ti is significantly more than 304 SS.

Anyway,

Kickin-
Make sure that you talk to someone at Jethot about the cat on the header. I don't know if you can Jethot that and still have it function correctly.
