They won’t charge over MSRP, but then it’ll have 3K in factory/port added accessories and 2K in dealer added goodies. The port added features you have zero say on, that’s how the different Toyota distributors work as far as I understand. But you can certainly fight or see who the shady dealers are when they add their stupid fees on the window sticker. That’s where you see those nitrogen bs fees or dealers saying they add paint protection to all their cars bla bla you can either take it or leave it, they know someone won’t mind and pay, specially on a GR.

I'd rather pay $5000 for tint, floor mats, cargo net, extended warranty and other bits/bobs (nitrogen filled tires, etc) than just pay a generic $5000 adjusted price.

I mean, if they are going to stick it in me, at least make me feel like I'm enjoying it a bit.

but hey, everyone (a lot of articles) is saying there's a bit of a recession coming, so maybe a lot of the people who want one will decide they don't need one quite as badly as they thought, which will make it easier to come by.

but then, all these news sites have been living on disaster porn for over 2 years now, so they know the formula for more clicks is doom and gloom.

Yeah man, I can't buy into it. Yes, we're in a correction because late 2020 and all of 2021 were just bat**** crazy for the markets, so things are coming back to reality. But when Bezos starts telling people to stop buying ****, it's because HE is scared... He runs a company with enormous debt and high interest rates are killing his profit and share value. When the rich people talk of a coming recession, it's because they're scared and want everyone else to do something different, while they continue business as usual.

Granted, I'm no economist or financial adviser so obviously don't listen to me, I'm just taking this all at surface value. Do I think people should continue to buy overpriced garbage vehicles? No. But at the same time, I don't think the bottom is going to drop out like it did in 2008/9. Just maybe think twice before taking financial advice from rich people. Bezos doesn't actually want you to stop buying things, he just wants people to stop taking out loans so his interest rates can drop.

I know for a fact that this dealer will do this because they've do it to all their cars. That's easier to negotiate out than some silly markup. If I have to pay $400 for some window tint and tire nitrogen, I'll take that L.

It'll be a non-starter though, some doofus with too much money will go in there and throw down $10k over sticker just so they can be one of the first to have the latest and greatest.

That's me, though I'm not really worried about recession. Until a few months ago my sentiment about getting the GRC was "eh, why not?" I got lucky and fell into a good spot with an MSRP dealer in my GR86 quest. With the value of my trade going down and rates going way way up, that question was eventually answered.

It won't be official until an allocation comes my way, so I'll have to see what the deal looks like then and decide. Anyhow it won't be near as painful as the decision to pull out of line for the CTR. I really wanted that car. While the decision was painful, it was also quite easy because of how stupid expensive it was going to be.

Oh yeah for sure 100%, if I’m gonna be screwed regardless with added fees I rather they be legitimate tangible things that are being added to my car than the “market adjustment bs”. No doubt. Just saying in response to those that see msrp and think it’ll be just that.

Well the interest rate hikes surely should put some folks off.

Yeah for sure I’ll take that L too when my Sienna comes in. They gave me the initial quote at msrp plus all this bunch of add ons and I gave them hell. They brought in like 2 others dudes to talk to me plus the manager and eventually I told them to F off and then I was walking around about to leave until the initial sales guy came back. He was basically like ok we’ll just give you the msrp quote but just know that we can’t control the port/factory adds and there might be some dealer adds. So basically left it open that there will be some added fees and I just said fudge it and put my deposit.

But yeah it is what it is. I can always more than happily back out when the car comes and I feel like the sticker price is not reasonable. Just gotta put in your order and hope for the best. If the fees aren’t reasonable and something you can stomach when the car comes then that’s yet another chance to walk away.

Best way to approach that is to bite on some dealer addons but the ones that are of value to you. Crossbars, all weather floor mats, receiver hitch? Even the little iPad holder for the headrests. That gives them some pad but you're at least getting some useful things.

That's what I really love about being able to order my cars. There isn't much in the way of options anymore, but I choose exactly the accessories that I want. My current 4Runner was purchased off the lot and I was stuck with running boards and a remote start that drove up the price $800 or so. The running boards have been in my crawlspace since the week I bought it 7 years ago and remote start is useless. My 4Runner Pro is coming with practically no accessories other than rock rails.

Apparently I was the 3rd order after the cutoff on my GR Corolla. I'll try again when the order bank opens again next month. So heartbreaking to get the email confirming my order and then an email 24 hrs later requesting that I withdraw the order. Soonest I'll get mine is the end of March, now.

F it man. It’s going to be produced 4 model years. More special editions will come. Chip shortages should alleviate. Motomachi will be back to full production. Mods etc won’t be bountiful for at least a year anyways. Steady Eddie and you’ll cop the bag 2023. As long as I get mine by the end of 2024 I’m good. It’s to watch all the festering on the GRC forum though. Mafk’s figuring out where allocations are going, idiots calling every stealer. 5k to 20k ADM. I mean

I believe all those you mentioned are actually factory/port installs, which not even the dealer has any say on. That’s how Toyota works, they don’t do custom orders and just build/add whatever they want and the dealers work through an allocation system. Basically I told them my “must have” like trim, roof rails, AWD, and 1500 inverter and they’ll try to get me the closest to that as possible within what they receive…but it’ll still come with other things I didn’t specifically ask for, no other way around it. So they might call me and probably say hey we got an AWD with roof rails but no inverter wanna go for it? You can say no, and continue waiting indefinitely till the one arrives that has everything exactly as you want. For example I ordered an XSE and Toyota is only making like 2 maybe 3 colors for it at the moment. So I obviously have to compromise on color. The moral of the story is you’ll also have to compromise on other accessories. Again, just how Toyota is.

When they quoted me initially they had around 3k added and only $800 was dealer add ons which included paint protection. They said they just included the port install as a general guesstimating, they don’t even know if those specific things they added will come with the vehicle you might get, they just add it as a warning for people to understand it can come with a bunch of add ons you didn’t ask for.

Anyway, sorry to hear about the GR experience. Hopefully you get yours. I mean, I’ll be lucky if I get my Sienna my March lol I was told 1-2 years. Minivans are hawt lol

For the fools that pay it, good riddance. But I suspect dealers will be sitting on inventory at $25k markup. Hell, I’d suspect $10k markup will leave vehicles on the lots.

I think dealers see their short lived days of cars being sold before hitting the lots and expect a downturn, thus will milk every last deal they can.

They can set the port installed accessories. When my brother got his highlander at the beginning of the year, the dealer preferenced his factory build. When it was allocated, they called him to set the accessories so he got exactly what he wanted accessory wise. The factory options were set on the allocation, but he had say in the accessories. This is obviously dependent on the dealer being willing to call you versus just clicking through.

I was at the Sienna plant a couple months ago. The railway situation has completely hosed them. Completed vehicles sitting everywhere with not enough rail cars to actually get them all shipped. If your car is among that lot of stranded vehicles that are waiting for a railcar, then yes, the accessories are already in the car and you’ll get what you get.

Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee that I’ll be allowed to get any special editions. The 4Runner 40th anniversary is eligible… but they are making 4040 of those and even then the numbers are limited to what we can order. The Sienna 25th anniversary is ineligible. There are a handful of vehicles (the BEVs and most PHEVs) are off the program completely. The Supra special editions never showed up on the program. Circuit and Morizo are specifically called out as not available. I’m certainly not going to panic and buy one outside of the program, though. I’ll keep dropping my order in each month and I’ll get it at some point.

As an aside, but I think that the ‘24 model will see a price jump. They’ll likely make the carbon roof and vented hood more available. Maybe as a performance package plus? The CTR got a huge price increase that Toyota didn’t know about until after pricing was out on the ‘23 GRC. That leaves breathing room to build in more features for more money. Look at how the 4Runner Pro price has jumped from $43k in 2015 to $55k today while being the same basic vehicle underneath. They’ve added things every year but the price has gone up with it because the vehicles are in such high demand. Better than a blatant price increase with no content change, but still. I don’t think the jump will be massive on the GRC, though.

Ok… but have you driven an MKV? Ive ended up buying vehicles I swore I’d never own after having driven them. The engine is BMW but the car does feel like every bit Toyota. I think you’d be doing yourself a disservice not getting behind the wheel of one (if you haven’t already).

Having everything in the car being made by BMW does not give me hope that the car will last. That, and maintenence costs, because, you guessed it, it's a BMW, keep me away from it. Don't get me wrong, I want to like it, I really do, but toyota could not have dropped the ball any more than they did with the MKV.

Hence why I'd love a GRC. AWD, small hatch, and incredibly Toyota. But I guess we just can't have nice things anymore.

Now, buy a MKV and drop a GTE VVTi in it? Hell yeah, but I'm poor.
