I’d almost be willing to bet the reliability and maintenance cost of the GRC and Supra to 100k miles is damn near equivalent. The B and S engines are ****ing tanks. Hell, I’d say the B series engine is way more stout than the S series (s58 excluded) simply because of the crank hub (easy fix) in the s55. If I wanted the best performance car with best reliability under $60k new, it would be the Supra. That engine and trans (both 6spd manual and auto) can handle such ridiculous levels of torque and with basic mods, you have a significant more reliable, faster, better handling and cheaper turnkey car than a MKV Supra. The GRC is a completely different vehicle that I don’t think it’s a fair comparison and offer fun / enjoyment in different way. Ultimately it’s your money and I can’t judge or tell you how to spend it, but I will say you might be selling yourself short by not driving a manual (or auto) Supra especially if you’re looking at boosting your NA Supra.

![]() BMW jumped up quite high in the latest Consumers Reports reliability survey. Thats a good sign, can't recall that happening before.

![]() Another problem that I face is that I'm not sure I'm into RWD cars anymore. Ever since I owner a BRZ, experiencing how great it handled for a "slow" car, I haven't been able to enjoy straight-line racing. I ended up finding myself owning a VA STI not soon after, and I loved how it felt driving it albeit slow for today's standard.
Since then, I've hated FWD cars, and I'm trying to get my love back for RWD, but I can't seem to find anything to scratch the itch. I don't like american cars, I despise american v8 noises, so anything muscle is out of the question. With that said, and my love for RWD dwindling, I don't think I could justify $60k for a MKV. I was hoping for a GRC at MSRP, and I had found a dealer and put my deposit down for a spot, but I'm not a patient person. Unfortunately I'm stationed somewhere where a new McDonald's in town makes the news, so I need something to keep my mind occupied. That, and not wanting to cause the MKIV damage every time I drive, drives me nuts. If the GRC dropped tomorrow and they told me I was next in line I'd make it happen in a heartbeat. Do I sell the MKIV for something new? Do I sell it at all? Do I go back to an STI, be it VA or GD? I hate not being able to make spontaneous horrible financial decisions due to the lack of options. |

![]() I'd sell it in a heartbeat for a new 6MT Supra. Then drive that until the GRC is available without all the hell that it is currently and have 2 GR Toyota Products, the best 2.

That's not gonna play for the core for long. That might work for the circuit for a bit longer though. |

![]() $25k ADM for a GRC seems to damn ridiculous especially when you consider people were generally paying $30-$50k ADM for a GT3. Roughly 5x the cost, a **** load more of a vehicle but only $15-$25k more ADM.
That said, not all are charging ridiculous ADM. $5k'ish and some are doing none. |

I’m in no hurry dude on this car. I’ve never liked the first 6-12 months hype. It’s a circus and stupid. It’s not like the aftermarket parts etc are in abundance. They won’t be for 24 months. Just like with any brand new to market consumer product..let the first people go first and second. They want to be first so bad they’ll pay through the nose. People with financial prudence will wait, and come scoop it up later when it’s not as crazy, for MSRP. Might as well camp a bit and see what other **** drops in resale value ![]() |

A coyote V8 is a glorious thing. Probably one of THE best sounding engines, full stop. BMW engines sound like coffee bean grinders. Porsches sound like diesels idling and at low RPM. Probably be single best V8 sound anywhere is a Ferrari. But an American Muscle car V8 is pure glory. But you can like whatever you like. |

![]() BMW I6 is a glorious sound.
IMO the Audi V6 engines are horrid, and also the Nissan V6 engines are also pukeworthy. those are some gross sounds. the problem with most American V8s is that the owners attach crappy exhausts that don't do any favors. like you say though, it's all personal preference. for me, the G16e GTS engine does sound great, at least in YouTube videos. Euro FPC I like for a different reason, the light rotating assembly and how quickly they rev up and down; I like V10s & V12s too. I don't care for many V6 sounds, it's more that I tolerate them, NA I-6s sound good, but "coffee grinder" is a good way to describe them; I think that's forced induction & sound regulations for you. I-5s are nice, I-4s, oddly enough, it depends, probably because there are so many of them out there. I3 in the GRY/C sounds good too, might be just because it's different/unique to my ears. In general, I like the sound of combustion; a roaring fire sounds awesome too. |

I liked the pre-turbo non-M engines like my 2.5L and 3.0L inline sixes. The M engines tended to sound a little harsh. The 4.0L from the Cayman GTS/GT4 sounds amazing also in a different way. Audi 5 cylinder from the RS3 sounds awesome too. |

![]() not sure you want to exclude all of the Audi 5 cylinders except the RS3.
well, I mean, there are a lot of fart can exhausts that are tossed on Audi 5 cylinders, but I can't think of an Audi 5 cylinder that hasn't sounded hot. |

![]() We'll be seeing a GRC on BaT soon, probably no reserve too. Who wants to bet on final sale price of a fully loaded core? I'm going with 65k.

I check Carmax once in a while. Nationally all the used blue 2020 Si's have been selling around $30k. It sort of makes sense cause the 2020 was the only year that had unique wheels and LEDs. Plus the 2022 Si doesn't have heated seats or variable suspension, costs $30k, and many prefer the 10th gen look. |
