But that has been locked up. Toyota Tracker was down as well becuase it ran on it too. I found I was still able to check status by inspecting the vehicle spec page on a car found in Toyota's inventory search tool:

https://www.toyota.com/search-invent...del/grcorolla/

I sent a message to Toyota Tracker guy explaining that and he modified his site to search the VINs against that public-facing database. Like I said, it's not 100% up to date, Toyota seems to withhold some data from it. So the Tracker is a bit limited now.
yeah i've never found these public trackers that useful to be honest. most of these big dealers have their own internal wait list already.

i usually just use the manufacturer's search tool and call within a certain radius. i avoid big cities. i've had luck doing this buying fk8 type r in iowa.

I saw on FB that a guy ran into diff overheating issues on his first track day. Seems like it might just need some heat wrap on the exhaust as a fix though?

It's funny how the whole country seems to look to Iowa as the perfect middle of nowhere place to retreat to for a reasonable deal on a cult car. Like 75% of their sales are prob to FL, CA, TX etc

Visconti just cracked the ECU.

not really a big deal considering the Yaris uses the same one and was cracked last year some time.

my opinion after having run the engine in a bit, I find the stock power to be great for what I want, delivery is very smooth and predictable, I'll follow the tuning scene to see where people take it, but probably won't be participating myself. the car feels great as is.

Although I'm still at least a year from getting one, if I ever do, I'd like 300 to the wheels. The nice thing about ECU tuning should be that I don't have to lose the sort of bs driver convenience stuff I'm learning to like (e.g. adaptive cruise) while still getting some mild power gains.

Always intrigued when ECU's are cracked. How do you crack modern day strong encryption? Keys would have to be leaked out, ain't no one sitting there cracking away with a super computer with these things, unless of course there is no encryption or very weak encryption.

I’m sure the stock power is nice but I couldn’t imagine not putting a free-flowing turbo back exhaust with custom tune once available, it’ll be like the ol Frankenstein movie…. “ITS ALIVE!!!1one”

At best, throw a high flow cat and tune. More and more states are cracking down on modifications. 0 reason for a catless exhaust, and keeping the cat back stock while only doing a high flow cat will give a decent uptick in sound volume while netting the same gains as a catless running 91-93 octane while sparring the cost for a decent cat back.

the stock exhaust sounds great as is. I have 0 need, or intention of doing any upgrades.

I mean, I'm not going to say never, but the stock exhaust is boomy in the right places, and the engine itself has sounds that make me think of a flat 6 that I would hate to overpower with some fart can.

The lack of a center line leads me to think its that road. Used to drive on it for fun in the Bay back when there were meets all over the place...

I think I have driven Mines Road once in my old 06 WRX and I haven't taken the Golf R up there. At least not yet.
I mostly ride up there on my motorcycle; I usually start out from San Jose / Alum Rock up the Mt Hamilton Observatory and down the other side (cold and sometimes icy in the winter !) through the Junction onto Mines Road.
I think that GRC video has motivated me to go check it out over the week-end .

I'm gonna have to check out that area next time I visit family. The only windy road I've frequented in northern California is the 20, between 101 and 1, from Willits to Fort Bragg. I've been meaning to do an extended PCH trip, but I'd go out of my way for some inland fun.

On your way down 101, about 120 miles north of Willits, you should get onto hwy 36 from Fortuna.
The first 70~100 miles are epic; you could keep going all the way to Red Bluff and hwy or turn around to do it again.
Also, 70 miles south of Fort Bragg, from the Stewarts Point store on hwy 1, there's a road going inland all the way to Lake Sonoma and back to 101: Skaggs Springs Rd. Another great road, IMO.

I hear Hwy 36 has been mostly flattened out... Used to be a CRAZY rollercoaster of a road.

Man its been almost 20 years since the Mega California road trip with some folks from here. Full day of backroad driving from Truckee to Ft Bragg mostly on 36:

Good times.
20 years later and I still haven't completely driven that part of highway 36 from I5 to 101.

I was up there twice between 2006~2010, with a small group of riders, and I remember sections with nice new blacktop and other sections with older/rougher stuff.
Pretty good fast sweepers here and there. I have good memories of the whole thing.

I did 36 twice from Fortuna and I never quite made it to Red Bluff in both cases (came real close).
I have never done 36 in a car, unfortunately.
