Service Bulletin #12-142-12
Pages: 3

Bulletin Description: This Bulletin provides a repair procedure to address a customer concern of a squeaking-type sound coming from the driver or passenger front seat back. The flat mat main support rods are covered in paper to prevent metal-to-metal contact with the backrest frame. However, if an edge on the backrest frame damages the paper, metal-to-metal contact will result, creating the squeak. Bushings will need to be installed to prevent the condition. This procedure eliminates the need to replace the backrest frame.

Sorry to hear but mine was fixed with no issues. The TSB helps.
I have an appointment for next tuesday

Keep us posted. I was one of the last to get a new seat back. But if the issue wasn't addressed in it, I may run into this again. I'll be interested to see how the TSB fix works.

I'm curious too. The service writer was kinda clueless.

Unrelated but I'm going to have the instant mpg display turned down 3% as well, he was also clueless about that

Clueless service personnel??? Nah, not at Subaru!! Lmao
I was one of those who got a replacement seatback, but even hough they made rubber bushings, the squeak is now back and louder than ever.
Also- the springy, popping feeling has gotten way worse. I may try another dealer. This seat has been drivinme crazy, and with absolutely no way to swap seats, it needs fixing.

My seat started squeaking today, for me it's more of a creaking noise. It literally sounds like my suspension or shocks are going. I only noticed it when I pulled into my garage and turned the ignition off. Maybe it has something to do with the seat warmers? I used them today for the first time in a long time.

I don't think so, mine is definitely in the upper part of the back. Mine just started on Monday and it sounds like an old recliner. If I'm driving down the road I can't hear it, but at a stop or entering/exiting I can hear it

My creak sound is audible driving down the road.
Although, I wonder if the seat warmers have anythng to do with it. I don't know what could be making the noise now. Its like the old noiise only with a lower tone, and with an empty polasatic water bottle crumbling sound.

Weird thing, when I got into my car this morning to drive to work. The creaking noise was gone. I will use my seat warmers tomorrow and try again.

When I had my squeak it was high in the seatback & sounded like a squeaky mattress or recliner. No plastic noise like 79 describes. But based on the location I see no correlation whatsoever with the heated seats. I use mine often. I will say that the squeak was more prominent the longer the drive. So the springs/frame warming up may have contributed to the squeakiness but I don't think the heated seats cause the issue. Similar to some rattles that only come out in the cold when the plastic is more rigid, with the heat it's the opposite in these squeakers.

Does anyone with a noisy seat NOT have seat warmers?

UPDATE!

Subaru found TSB, ordered bushing (they come from east coast USA) and they were here within 2 days. Installed, and problem solved! Here is the part label!

Guess my seat squeak was an isolated case, it seems to be gone now and I hope it never comes back.

Was squeaking again this morning, but after driving 40 minutes to the dealer it stopped. I don't have high hopes, maybe I can get them to just order me the parts

They don't have parts in stock so I am probably going to see if they can order me the bushings and I will do it myself

Dealer says my car is outside the vin range for the tsb and will order parts.

I'm'm not sure how I'm out of the range when the tsb says 2012 impreza and 2013 crosstrek.....

Mine squeaks too, all though its not noticeable when I'm driving, just when I'm sitting in my car and move around. I need to get that Coolant ECU update as well, maybe I can lump them in together?
