Default WRX EJ20 into 99 legacy

Is this swap possible? The car I might be buying has an automatic; do all of Subaru's tranmsssions have the same bolt patterns? I'd like to be able to just swap in the motor, not have to change the trans.

TIA

Of course it’s possible, same as the GC’s… I have an EJ20 in my 98 Legacy, swaps in like Lego’s. As for the transmission, it will mate to an EJ20 but are you sure you’d want to????

That's nice to know. As for the trans, I'll take one headache at a time. If the TCU and the ECU can't get along, then I'll look into the 5mt swap. Thanks for the info guys!

I have a EJ20 I'm about to put into my '99 Legacy.

Although my legacy is a 5 speed. My mechanic said the WRX 5 speed is stronger, and is a different type (push, or pull I can't recall the difference).

That, and also the fact that when I ordered a heavy duty clutch, Rallitek gave me one that works with the WRX, not my current tranny. Instead of sending it back I decided it be better to just get the WRX tranny.

Food for thought.

you will have to get a wrx rear end as well. the gear ratios are different.
IMO I would stick with the legacy 5MT. Lower gears=quicker
