if your car is stock, take it back to a dealer (certified aircare one).. good luck!

Is the car well warmed up before you go? do you leave it running while waiting? Maybe your cats have gone bad? Have you had any issues with the car lately? Does it run properly?

I assume you warmed your car up before taking it through???

concentrate on the carbon monoxide reading. you are running really rich (too much fuel). that's probably what's causing your HC to fail, too. like I said to you, the rear o2 senor doesn't really effect your emission, but you had the CE light on. did you tell don docks that you were trying to get pass air care? if you did, they should have check out other stuff for you.

since your car is running pretty good, I would rule out mechanical problems, ie: vaccuum leaks, bad spark plugs, etc. the 2 things that would cause the reading to go that high would be either your front o2 senor or your MAF senor. have those 2 things check first to make sure they are working/reading properly. if they are, the only logical thing left would be a bad cat converter, and since you said you had it replaced recently, it should be under warranty

There are two cats in the downpipe (or if you want to get picky one in down pipe and one in the short section that attaches to it which most downpipes replace).

I thought it was the law that emissions related devices on cars have a 5 year warranty?

Hmm... have you been driving this car a lot? I have heard stories of cars not being able to pass aircare because of a long duration of not driving the vehicle.

I'm air care licenced, but the shop isn't, so we don't do air scare repairs
there's actually 3 cats in your car, one in the up-pipe, and 2 in the down-pipe

From the Subaru Canada web site:

Emission Control System Limited Warranty
This warranty covers the majority of emissions components for 36 months or 60,000 km and the major parts of the emission control system for 96 months or 130,000 km.

Get the cat nice and hot. Go for a boot on the highway, and then don't shut off your car while waiting in line. I see some people leave the car off, and even push it til they're at the front. They're actually ruining their chances of passing.

A guy I use to work with made a special 'aircare' muffler for his truck because it kept failing. With his modded muffler he was getting pretty near 0.000's on ALL his readings without touching anything else on the truck.
Something about making a fresh air intake on the top of the muffler where it couldn't be seen.

Cost = one old muffler, a cutting torch and about a hour of time.

How would you add a fresh air intake on a muffler? Any hole you cut would be an outlet as the exhaust inside the muffler is pressurized.

Actually, I do believe what Kevin has mentioned is true.

When I was in highschool, my english teacher mentioned how his old rust bucket passed Aircare with very low emissions - he had an exhaust leak in his rusted-out muffler.

Perhaps the velocity of the exhaust gasses at throttle causes a vaccum effect so that it drew air from outside the exhaust system thus lowering the emissions reading? I'm no thermodynamic gas expert by any means, but this is my opinion.

Anyone got an old muffler and $42 to test out this hypothesis?

LaterZ!
Darren!!

Bingo! At least that's how my co-worker explained it to me. He said it worked well and I have no reason to think he was pulling my leg.
