Default Crosstrek XV Winter Set up (Help)

Hey everyone, haven't been on this forum in years. Sold my 06 STI a year ago and got a 2018 XV.

I'm trying to decide on a winter set up, that won't put me over $1500.

The Method Wheels look great on the XV but does anyone recommend anything else?

I want to downsize my wheels so I can use beefier tires. I'm unsure exactly what I need and what will fit. I know you need to reduce the tire width but then make up for it with the aspect ratio, but I don't know exactly what to get.

My car is the Limited model with 18" wheels.

Thanks for the help

Downsizing should work fine, probably only go with 17” hoops on it. I currently run Sparco Terra’s and Blizzaks (not paired with each other, mind you) and love both. Think 17” Terra’s run ~$150 a rim, and are good quality IMO.
You don’t need to downsize the width of the tire what so ever. Crosstreks have 225 width in them right? If you had a massive truck or street runner with 275’s, ya, I’d say down size the width. 225 will cut through the snow just fine, and seeing as Subaru’s are fairly wavy an have good weight distribution, not a huge deal. Once you decide on a rim size, research what size tire will match your stock tire size as close as possible.

I have a '22 Limited Crosstrek. I have a set of '02 to '04 WRX 16 inch wheels that I had been using on my '14 Impreza for some time. I currently have these wheels on my Crosstrek so I can tell you for certain that they fit without rubbing on hard parts, like brake calipers. I replaced the old tires with something closer to the 18" wheel tire combo. I ended up with Firestone Winterforce 2 UV in 225/75 R16. At 55 mph, they are off by 2 mph so they are slightly smaller in diameter. I landed on these mainly because they were inexpensive, and came in a size that gets me as close as possible to the 18's. I also had Autel MX TPMS sensors installed that are cloned to match those in the summer wheels. No reprograming necessary when changing summer/winter wheels.

So, if you can score a set of these wheels cheap that are not bent, they will fit your late model Crosstrek. As for the tires, they seem to be okay. So far it has been a mild winter in terms of snow but nothing so far has been a problem. Even after a heavy snow a couple weeks ago, I went looking for a mild challenge. Nothing I could find ever needed X Mode. I'm not sure if I should be happy or disappointed but the tires seem to work well.

After 6 years I'm pretty sure O.P. would have found a set by now.

I have no doubt of that, but knowing a set of 16" WRX '02 to '04 factory wheels will fit a '21 to 23' Crosstrek for certain, without rubbing hard parts, might help someone looking for a winter setup.
