Remeber that the engine pistons is sitting flat so even when parked, there is some oil seepage. With most engines, pistons are upright so oil will drain back in the pan. So I believe this explain the oil consumption unless I'm mistaken.

^^Interesting theory that I've never considered before. But I don't think it makes sense to me. I don't see why that would cause more consumption (that is, burning of oil).

And the burning off at start is why people lose oil without leaks or seeing the car smoke. Most can not see behind car at startup.

Some good sense there, I don't burn any oil or very little, between oil changes but then I only start it twice a day, to head in and to head home. Weekends pretty much the same, might go to the store and back home, generally I don't even drive on Sundays.

"Boxer engines, like the one found in your WRX, tend to burn oil vaster than V or inline motors because they are flat and it's easier for oil to seep into the combustion chamber. Also, if you don't let your engine run for a minute to let your turbo cool down, some oil may be burned there too." |

Re MPG: I can get 44 mpg on the highway by driving 60-65mph (more in the mountains), but it will quickly drop off after 65. In the winter I haven't been able to get above 38 on any extended highway trip even going 60-65 (winter tires/fuel). That said, in town, I'm lucky to break 22 in the winter, 26 in the summer.
Re seat squeak: easy fix, $2 part, or a bit of e-tape strategically placed. The dealer did one seat of mine, screwed it up, so I did the other one, easy enough. Re oil consumption: i don't have it, *knock on wood* but some do. Subaru's aren't the only new cars showing this problem. I don't think it's as widespread as the forums would indicate, but it is a big problem, I think. If mine started using more than 0.5-1qt per 5-7.5k oil change interval, I'd sell it off for some used $5-10k daily driver. I love the car, and so long as no big oil consumption pops up, I'll probably drive it till rust splits it in half. I only have 3 dislikes about it, and only one of those really irks me. 1. Orange peel on the paint, this is the one that really irks me, and why I would move to a used car to find one without it, most new cars today have it pretty bad. 2. Lock-to-lock ratio of steering wheel. A right hand turn takes a full 360 of the wheel. The steering is very precise, and you feel the road no problem, but I just wish it were tighter, and less steering wheel movement was necessary to move the wheels (minor gripe). 3. Door locks don't automatically lock when you get above a certain speed, say 20 mph, and you can't just pull open the doors when it's locked (minor gripe). That's pretty much it. If I had to go back and buy a car again in 2012 (Dec 31st, 2011 delivery for me), I'd buy the Subaru again from all the other cars in that segment. The only real choices then were the Focus (unbelievably bad road feel/driving experience) and the Mazda 3 (terrible interior build quality). If I was buying in the same segment today, and didn't really need AWD (I probably don't), I'd really strongly consider the new Mazda3. They've fixed my gripes with it, and I think it's a pretty awesome car now; maybe a Honda Civic SI coupe, but I don't know much about those. If i repurchased the Impreza today, I'd probably get the 5-door. I'm not a fan of the 5-door non-sport look, but I think it'd be useful (and I prefer function over form/aesthetics). I'm still perfectly happy with the sedan though, and don't regret getting it at all. My...maybe more than 2 cents. |

I am 6'3" and I did not fit into 5dr Impreza. The dealer told me that 4dr versions is the same. :-)
I had my right knee tightly against the steering wheel. I used to own 91 Civic Hatchback, 93 Civic sedan, and my dad has 99 Mazda Protege. I fit all these vehicles. The dealer offered to try Legacy but I did not want to give it a try. It is a diff. class, we already own a large car, Tribeca. I am disappointed that I could not move the seat little bit more back or the steering wheel little bit more up or forward. I wonder if I could replace the seat with some race seat that would fit. Ha ha... |

Interesting, and a bit surprising. The Impreza is known to be one of the roomiest cars in its class.
Oh well.... Did the salesperson know that the steering wheel tilts/telescopes? You might want to give the Forester a try.... |

I don't understand how you didn't fit in the car. I'm 6'2" and can hardly reach the pedals with the seat all the way back. My brother is 6'5" and fits comforably

That is what I told my wife on the way home. I missed that. The sales guy missed that too.
Now that I am thinking about it, I think I pushed the steering wheel all the way forward and up instead of towards me. I feel like an idiot now but I was siting there like a duck thinking what the hack! The sales guy unfriendly face and manners (not rude though) probably did not help the situation either. When we left we where happy that we did not have to spend more time with him. |

The sunroof does cut headroom a little so if you're tall look for one without a sunroof. |

What everyone else said...
Either you're actually 7'3", or the salesman is an idiot, and you should go to another dealer or tell the sales manager you need a different salesman. I'd opt for a different dealership if there's one within an hour drive. |

I found a huge difference in the dealerships in our area. Try another one if there are any. I drove a hundred miles and saved a wad of cash and have never been treated better.

Thank you all for your help! I will go to a different dealership as even my wife said that if I go back she will wait for me in our car (the Impreza is intended primary for her use). :-)

That 50+ year old car has a flat four, aircooled even, and has never had any noticeable oil loss between changes. |

This is probably a dumb question but what is the ideal positioning of seat to steering wheel positioning? I probably just have bike fit thoughts going on but my Touareg didn't have as many options so I find myself constantly making adjustments. Do you just move everything so you're comfortable or what?
