Default The chirp chirp from impreza rally cars

I was wondering if I could make my car do the chirp chirp that the old impreza rally cars would make cause I think it sounds pretty cool, that is if it doesn't damage anything

It's compressor surge - caused by running no bypass/blowoff valve at all.

This may cause damage to the turbo's compressor wheel. Prodrive typically didn't care (because racecar,) you might care a little bit - as turbos aren't typically a disposable commodity.

That chirp-chirp is the sound of massive wads of $$$ blasting out the tailpipe in a haze of sweet-smelling race gas vapor.

Easy to make your own car sound exactly like that....Just Apply Money.

I've never herd a definitive answer about where it exactly comes from, but have herd people say compressor surge. The commentators on FIA rallycrossRX say its the waste gate, whatever it is its definitely from a lack of bov. Running 4.5 bar through a $16,000 turbo with a little fresh air als on the side cant hurt either!

Gigi Galli testing the Evo WRC a few years ago. The chirp chirp starts 1:05min.

Freaking gorgeous symphony.

It's due to compressor surge. I managed to achieve with a VF52 and PW TMIC using a Forge BPV and hardest red spring. But not as loud as that.

This may be a dumb question, but why not use a BOV? Less lag?

Its supposed to keep the ic tubing pressurized for better throttle response or something like that.

There's no BOV because the throttle never shuts and the intake manifold never goes into a vacuum state. ALS keeps the throttle open-

The purpose of a BOV is to keep the turbine from stalling which happens when the throttle shuts.

It surges because the turbo is making more boost than the engine can take in at low throttle angles. This is due to the anti-lag.
