Exclamation BOV noise, I want it now.

Please, will everyone stop telling me stupid info about my APS BOV... I just want the thing to make noise, blow off, whatever...

Please don't respond to this if you have something unproductive to say.

And thanks to those who really help me out!

It may help if there's one simple question answered.

Why?

You could put a cap in your recirc hose and vent the BOV 100% to atmosphere.

Or, you could re-install your stock BOV and remove the intake silencer.

Either way will get you the sound you want.

I hear them electronic ones work great. You can even crank the volume, or you can amp it, and put like 4 speakers and a sub, so every time you shift, or puch the button, everyone knows your car blows

It won't do anything to the performance... it's only there to do as the name implies, silence the air intake/recirculation sound. It's not hard, but I wouldn't say it's super easy either... you basically have to take out a few clips from the fender lining inside the wheel well behind the passenger side wheel, peel back the lining, undo a couple bolts, remove the silencer, and reverse the process.

It'll allow you to hear the air rushing into the intake when you accelerate, and the excess air recirc'd back into the intake between shifts and when you let off the throttle.

Here's some good info if you don't have the BOV installed right.

Here are the instructions (as per Scooby Mods) on how to remove the silencer.

If you want to hear the "whooshing" noise and your stock bypass valve, this is the mod for you.

Negative. Removing the intake silencer will not get you the "psst" sound that you get from a BOV.. Removing the silencer will only allow you to hear your turbo whine louder..

I second this. It does sound better, but it won't be the same sound you are looking for.

Like 02R6 said, maybe you could modify the recirculating hose? I'll have to look later... maybe someone else knows?

Not neccessarily negative.

I suppose removing the intake silencer produces different results for different cars. However, I think you will find the general consensus around here to be that you can, in fact, hear your stock bypass valve when you have removed the intake silencer. And by hear, I mean the "psst" noise.

I definitely can with my car. In fact, no silencer with the stock bypass valve is louder than no silencer with the GFB 50/50 (which is for sale, by the way) I had. On my car.

If a loud "psst" noise is what you want, nothing beats 100% vent to atmosphere. If you want free, albeit less loud, "psst" noise, remove the silencer.

I have this exact setup. (My stock bypass made the "psst" noise before I got the intake, though.)

This is true and there's absolutely no engine performance issues to worry about, either. Click on the picture for details.

confusing stuff, everyone is kinda contradicting eachother. but, does a bov install require me to remove the stock silencer?

will the bov be louder with the silencer gone? or is that a main part of putting it in? thanks for the help, people.

An aftermarket BOV doesnt require you remove the silencer. Removing the silencer is just a DIY mod. And removing the silencer supposedly makes the stock bypass valve louder.

That is a 14B a Mitsubishi Turbo off an eclipse or talon, they have major problems that result in venting the BOV. Recirculation is the only way to go with those cars.

On the other hand, People do say it makes you run rich in between shifts with the Scoob, but I still plan on getting one, mainly becuase i love that MEAN sound.

removing the snorkus (on my car at least) made for increased BOV 'sound'. It's not extremely noticeable, but good enough for me. An aftermarket BOV is kind of like an aftermarket intake, the factory stuff is pretty damn decent untill you go nuts with other mods.
