Default Andrewtechs new gear set

Well its long awaited, but I am finally ready to give my review on Andrewtechs new gear set. It is a 1-4 Helical with syncros engagement. I wanted to wait until I broke the gears in, had a proper tune, and tested them at the track before I posted an official review of them. First I would like to say that the guys at Andrewtech are very knowledgeable and friendly, but down to earth. They made me feel comfortable the whole time with spending my college tuition there! They were great from Dan, to Andrew showing me examples of broken gears; to Yogi the tech who pulled the trans and installed it back in the car and test drove it with me. He didnt even laugh at me when I almost stalled it.

Now, on to the review of the gears themselves. Simply put they are great. They are exactly what I wanted. They sound perfect. The gear whine isnt enough to bother you but you know you have PPGs. I didnt want to go for the 6mt because I have driven them and I know how short the ratios in them are (even the 07s). The first thing you notice when driving the car now is how long first is. When I was at the drag strip the car took me to almost 45mph in first! When you shift the RPMs drop just enough to keep you in the power band. My trap speeds are a testament to the new ratios. I trapped 109mph with only a 2.2 60 (I ran into some clutch problems).

It is great having the confidence of knowing that I have PPGs in my gear box and that I had andrewtech install them. I know I am not making the most power 308/389 on P&Ls dynojet but not having to worry about my third gear shredding is great.

What is your powerband? I guess what i'm asking is, what rpm does it drop you back to?

That's not bad. So as long as you're on full boil by about 4500-4700 rpm you're pretty solid. Nice. i like it.
