Default 1998 RSTi San Antonio

My family dynamics are soon to change and I could use the money more than I can use the car. Plus, it mostly sits in the garage and comes out for C&C (if I'm not working) or for the one random day I feel like driving it, so I have more use for cash than I do the car. So here it is:

Up for sale is my 1998 RSTi. It's a coupe. Yassssss, a coupe. It's a blast to drive, and it runs swimmingly. So I'll go over the history and the good and the bad, which is typical for a for sale thread. Here is my disclaimer, this is not a DD, this is on it's way to being purpose built for road course. The interior is nothing but a dash and front seats.

Story time!

I bought this car early 2011. I had been in the market for a GC and found this baby in Georgia. The PO had botched an H6 swap, but the car was in good shape otherwise. So I bought it, trailered it back to the panhandle of Florida and parked it in the garage. I thought, "What the heck, let's try and make this swap work." Unfortunately, it was too far gone. I told my then wife to be that I was going to start shopping around for a donor car to do an STi swap instead. This plan was given the green light, but SURPRISE! The Air Force decided they wanted me to move to Tampa...Well...ok. I hauled my non-running Subaru all the way down to Tampa.

Luckily, I found a donor car back in Mississippi and the guy was willing to meet me up in NW FL to make the transaction. The donor was beat up on the outside, but was otherwise mechanically sound. Perfect for what I was looking for and the price was right. I loaded her up on the trailer and hauled her back to Tampa to start my swap. This was a painful process for two reasons; 1. When we moved, my wife was forced to resign from her job. (That's another story) 2. The PO had buggered everything up.

The process was arduous. I even ended up selling my Hawkeye at this time so we didn't lose our house. I swapped over all the parts from the donor car and contemplated doing the GD dash swap, but, I'm an admitted purist, so I didn't want to do all that. I like the clean look of the GC dash. But after I got all the parts swapped over, I contacted iWire to do my harness merge. Well....unfortunately for me, the PO had hacked my harness beyond salvageable. So, being I owned a 98...it was completely different from the 99-01 RS. So my hunt for a harness began.

It took me about 2 and a half years to hunt one down. Granted, I wasn't too proactive, but they aren't exactly easy to come by. Now, if you know iWire, you know he does amazing work. Once I got my harness back, the car was turn-key ready. However, again, the PO strikes again! In order to shoehorn that H6 in, they had cut the upper and lower radiator supports out. *sigh* Ok, luckily, I know some people who are handy with a welder. I cut out and replaced the upper radiator support, and made a custom lower radiator support that brought the radiator forward a few inches. It's made out of schedule 10 stainless steel pipe and gives you more clearance than you typically see in these swaps, so that's nice.

I got everything wired up and running, and then SURPRISE!!!! You're moving to Texas. *sigh* Ok. Now I'm here in San Antonio with my wonderful swap debating selling it. So let's get on to the good part.

Mileage:

The swap had 88k miles on it when I swapped it over. The ODO had ~120k KM (yes, KM...madtyteJDM bruh) on it when the swap was completed. It now has ~125k KM. For those of you bad at math, it's around 91k miles on the swap. The car has about 126k miles on it.

Engine/Power:

EJ257 from an 04 STi
TGV delets
Grimmspeed PnP intake mani
Cobb SRI with AEM intake box
Grimmspeed MBC
Beatrush forged aluminum pitch stop
3mm phenolic spacers
AEM fuel pump. The e85 compatible type!
*Coming soon* iWire intercooler splitter
APS 3" DP
Borla Hush catback
Cobb AP v3
Tuned by Drunkmann Tuning on speed density

Driveline:

04 Sti 6spd
Front and rear kartboy shifter stay bushings
Beatrush rear diff lockdown bar

Suspension and brakes:

KYB struts with blue springs (I'll be honest, I don't know what the springs are)
I swapped over front and rear subframes, so you have all the STi bits under the car
Grimmspeed master cylinder brace
Subaru "reds" 4/2 pot brakes
The correct KNS gravel rear rotors that fit the swap (I had to wait about 9 months for those)

Interior:

It's stripped. It's just a dash and front seats.
Beatrush bulkhead blockoff plate
Beatrush shift knob

The good:

It runs great, it was done correctly.
v3 JDM gauge cluster. It's in KPH, lights up green and has white face gauges. It even has the DCCD display if you want to hunt that down. For the right price, I may throw in my Defi link II gauges which would match perfectly.
JDV v3 front and rear seats. If your butt has never been lucky enough to experience these seats, I feel bad for you.
There is no DCCD controller, BUT! I had iWire leave the DCCD leads exposed for when I was going to do an aftermarket controller.

The bad:

The exterior isn't in the greatest shape. It's a 1998 though, so dings and scratches are to be expected.
The passenger side floor pan has a hole in it. Thanks to, what I assume, was the PO dropping the car onto a jack stand trying to use the floor pan as support.
The transmission pigtail isn't plugged in. Why? I probably overlooked it. I don't remember, it's been about 4 years since I swapped everything over. I can't honestly remember if there is a pigtail in the trans, but I have a brand new one from the factory that will go with the car.
The passenger window does not roll down
No airbags hooked up
CEL for fuel temp sensor is on
Windshield should be replaced
Not sure rear window defros works
No A/C

So you may ask, "Drews, why are you giving me all this information?" Well, I want to be as transparent as possible. I'm not trying to hide anything and will answer any questions earnestly. Again, this is not a DD, this is a car that was on it's way to being purpose built. I have a lot of money sunk into this thing making sure I did things right.

Now, let's talk turkey. What am I asking? $14k. I know the amount of work that goes into these swaps. It's not the prettiest car, not everything works, but it is swapped and running with a good tune. To boot, it has tons of quality aftermarket parts. I love this car, and I'm open to negotiation, but I know what it takes to build these things, and it isn't cheap to do it right, which is what I strive to do. I might also consider trades for a diesel truck.

"But Drews, you didn't post pics." You're right, I did not. And I apologize for that right now, I'll get some upon request. I have this upcoming weekend off, so I'll definitely get pics then. I also probably forgot to list some stuff in this ad, so if I did, please don't assume I'm trying to deceive you. I forget sometimes. If you have any questions, please let me know, I'm more than happy to answer them for you.

I think that ~$57M might be a bit steep of an asking price...
