Still same trouble with mine. Using ecuflash 1.29 I get:
[13:32:46.535] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [13:32:47.768] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [13:32:49.000] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [13:32:50.232] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [13:32:51.465] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [13:32:51.886] kernel get version ...then an error message pop-up. Ecuflash 1.42 doesn't recognize the interface cable at all. Seems like a good chap, but I'd love to see this writeup from a client of his.

When we first tested these with ECUflash 1.42.25.xx and our drivers you had to confirm ECUflash before the cooling fans performed their test cycle. (only with 02/03 cars) 04+ didn't matter. The fans kick extremely fast so it does take a few attempts to get it right. I've had some mixed results from people regarding the bugeyes, had many that had no issues after they got the timing down, then had some that would still have an error. I'm going to get my hands back on an 02 next week hopefully and confirm again with all latest versions of the software and make a video guide to solving the timing issues. |

not a problem man i started this whole thing to help out because i hated paying 100 bucks+ for a V1.3 cable haha. I confirmed these when i first tested them out ( at the time i was doing a hybrid build for an 02, and had an 03 down for a 2.0 rebuild) so i had plenty of access to them.
The only year model i didn't personally confirm was the 2000 JDM model but i had two customers over seas test and confirm no problems. I will let you guys know something asap. |

Subscribed for an answer. I have an 02 and having the same issues, tried as many combination of timing as possible, no dice.

The 12V line to pin 11 has evolved from a constant on regulator, to one switched by the RTS line. If you do not want to show the guts, I understand. Just trying to figure out if it is a mimic of the original 1.3 or a functional equivalent. |

Tried to sync the cable again, this time I followed this process, still no luck. I have logged successfully though so I assume the cable is working correctly. I would appreciate some input here

dude get your money back if its that much of a hassle. Even the vag com cables on ebay for $12 will log with rom raider.
at this point, if you have an 02-03...you pretty much have to buy a tactrix cable. |

Cody from BFM has tested these as fully functional with a USDM bugeye, and has said he'll try to get a clients bugeye back to do a full walkthrough next week.
I'm limited on time as I'm now officially overdue for an inspection, so I broke down and bought a Tactrix 1.3 cable off a member here; worked on the first try for both reading and flashing. But BFM is trying to offer a solution for the absurd price of a Tactrix cable. Hopefully they pull through for us bugeye owners! |

There ARE significant differences in the Tactrix versions and the Vagcom stuff. Ecuflash code is written to talk to a Tactrix cable, or one with the same functionality. That is why I requested a photo of one of the BFM PCB component layouts. I could determine from there with a degree of certainty how faithful the part was to a real 1.3 (or 1.2) cable. Will wait to see what is forthcoming. No way I will pay $50+ for another version of a Vagcom, but if it is indeed a functional reproduction.......... Would save me time making my own from a recently bought Vagcom that will not work with Ecuflash (no surprise, but i thought, What the hell). Does not share the same circuitry. Really only needs a few components totaling less than $20 from Digikey and some handiwork with wiring. |

I will be getting my hands on an 02 late next week to do some videos on timing the cables and confirming that they work.
I've switched manufacturers of the blank OBD cables/chips that i use a few times since i originally tested them on the 02/03's. I've had some people with no problems then some with problems, so i want to make sure its not a particular brand/source that is causing my problem. So i've got 2 of my latest ones ready to test out and one of the originals as well as a straight up tactrix V1.3 cable. So i will do a video pitting them against each other so i can show the timing difference with our cable for syncing. I'm already piecing up a "how-to" video on installing the drivers, and going through ECUflash. Which the majority already knows, but its nice to have something to refer to none the less. I will post the links up to my findings ASAP! |

i personally know cody, and have worked on alot of stuff with him, 02-03 even with a reg tactrix is complicated, i have been tuning cars for almost 3 years, and some times they can be really crappy with connecting, also there is a chance the ecu could be locked i have run into that before
these are almost identical to the tactrix 1.3 but half the price, there is no reason to buy the cruddy 2.0 when you have this as an option, its just like the bcs eveyone else sales its just a mac valve that you can buy all the parts and put them together for about 45 dollars, if you want to buy it for the name go ahead just know your paying 2-3 times as much |

so has anyone used ecuflash on the 02 wrx with the BFM cable? Seeing some talk that it may just be a timing issue? I am digging the price but don't want to order unless its working. I have Win7 64 bit if that is a concern.

^ Same thing happened when my friend Ron member BLUE STINGER tried to use one of these supplied cables on a 02 wrx to tune a car, tried many things and no worky. He pulled out his 2.0 tactrix cable and bam. Tried the 1.3 cable and it worked fine as well. This bfm cable did work on his gd sti just fine though. He said maybe there is a trick to it to get it to work on the earlier wrx's, maybe its just timing.
