Default Cadillac confirms 420-hp twin-turbo V6 for 2014 CTS

Autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/18/c...-cts-w-videos/

Quote:
The 2014 CTS will break cover next week at the New York Auto Show, but Cadillac has released a few details of what we can expect to find under the car's hood. As we saw in some spy shots back in January, the biggest news for the midsize Caddy will be a twin-turbocharged V6 producing a whopping 420 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

This LF3 engine will be paired to a new eight-speed automatic transmission, which will help balance performance and fuel economy. We still don't know how much the 2014 CTS has grown in terms of size and weight, but General Motors says that new sedan will return 17 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg highway with the new engine to go with a 0-60 mile per hour time of 4.6 seconds - that means the new CTS will have the fuel economy close to the current base model sedan and acceleration not too far from the current CTS-V. General Motors also confirmed that this twin-turbo V6 will be available in the 2014 XTS this fall.

The next-generation CTS will carry over the 3.6-liter V6 from the current car (likely as a base engine) and also add the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder from the ATS.

Holy ****!!!

Speculation: This engine or a slightly massaged version of it goes in the ATS-V, while the CTS-V takes a hiatus until they develop a forced induction variant on the new LT1.

I never thought I'd say it, but this is actually too much power for the people who drive these.

Yes, I agree...

Most people who drive G35/7s can't really handle the all out power.

It's 320hp in a car that weighs ~3650 lbs. I'd hardly call that all out power. It's more than most commuter cars but things like the camry have 268hp and the accord has 278 hp.

420 hp in this car is just crazy. Part of me keeps saying to myself, 420 HP in the NON V version. Wow, that is crazy. That is just lunacy!

But let me be the first to say this. If Caddy wanted to shake up the mid range mid size market. Putting 420 HP in their non-V car is a good way to walk up to the 535i BMW and give him a taste of the back of his hand.

This is bold. This is how you lead. This is what once made GM and Caddilack GREAT back in the 40-60's.

I still hate Caddy for the political views they keep, but product reigns supreme in the car buying world. PRODUCT! Caddy led GM out of hell, and now they are continuing to push.

This is lunacy for sure, but such sweet lunacy it is.

please let there be an ats-v wagon with this engine and a manual.............a brotha can dream I supose. I wonder how this motor contrasts with the LT1 for efficency and weight. It reminds me a bit of the northstar V8 which I believe wasnt too far off ls1 power but had the "sophistication" caddy buys wanted. Then again I am not exactly a caddy historian so I might not have that quite right.

At that level, wouldn't it be more like taking the white glove off to slap them with?

Or would that be the super car level?

Either way, it ends in a circle jerk.

Woah, Talk about a Sledgehammer. I'm really questioning the need for so much power in a base sedan. Hell, even being able to buy a 400hp 180mph Mustang for under 30K is getting on to be dangerous.

That's exactly what the government wants so they can over-regulate us!

But seriously. I'm getting one of these used and making it my daily.

Put this engine in a RWD Buick.

I have no desire for a Caddy.

Wonder if we'll see more of this engine in other GM models.

Silverado ecoboost would be cool.

2.0T is the base model, 3.6 mid-range, 3.6T is the top of the line non-V engine. 528i, 535i and 550i, basically,

GM joins Ford’s lead with EcoBoost performance

Quote:
If there was any doubt that Ford was onto something when they conceived the 3.5 liter twin turbo-charged V6 engine, look to General Motors who just announced they are following suit with one of their own.

The 2014 Cadillac CTS will be the first vehicle to get GM’s new LF3 3.6 liter twin-turbo V6 engine with inter-cooling and direct injection, which will achieve 420 horsepower. The new engine will appear this fall in the CTS with a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

The engine will follow later in a Buick Grand National and GNX rear wheel drive sedan based on the same chassis by 2015. Likely, the engine could also be seen in the redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Camaro that makes its debut later this month at the New York Auto Show.

GM’s new twin-turbo V6 will likely see various output levels depending on the vehicle it appears in, but all versions will see virtually the same technology that makes Ford’s EcoBoost engines so robust. Direction injection paired with turbocharging is a winner.

Ford will likely be now pressed to start showing some output increases with their own 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine. While in most trims now it has an output of 365 horsepower, it has been said by Ford representatives that it is well capable of up to 400.

The catch for Ford thus far is finding a transmission that can back up that kind of power in the front-wheel drive based cars it has largely been installed in. The front-wheel drive based transmissions of the Taurus, Explorer and Flex have a maximum torque they can handle before they start coming apart.

With the coming 2015 Mustang and rumored Lincoln Coupe which have rear-wheel drive applications we could see Ford make their 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 power competitive. It is clear however that GM has seen the light.
