News Project Car: The Rarest Subaru Model in the US ... the 1970 FF-1 Coupe

I couldn't believe this popped up over on USMB the other day at a junkyard in northern California, and I lucked out and happened to be close enough to save it (courtesy Darrell AKA wooknwood, who volunteered to pickup the car and drive it here with his flatbed!)

I only know of a handful of FF-1s still in existence in the U.S, even fewer than the old Subaru 360's and much MUCH more rare than any other 1970's model Subaru.

If you would like to know more about the FF-1, here is an article about one that SOA has stored in their "attic":
http://drivev2.dcim.com/sum06_attic.aspx?page=4#ff

So anyhow, here are pictures...

Feel free to ignore the P.O.S. that someone spray painted on the trunk long before I purchased it

What a transformation. And yes assembling will be good fun.

Let me just say that if you ever decide to sell this, which I doubt. I want to be one of the first to say I will be glad to take it off of your hands. It's gonna be a beauty.

Looks like a GT40?

Unless you are talking about the mustang-looking thing against the back wall...

GT40 kit car next to it, and a Chevelle in the background with a white paint job.

There was a Porsche in there last week getting finished up, but it was a copper/brown type color.

I plan on updating this thread with more pictures and information as I go...

Tomorrow I'll start cleaning out the interior and maybe give it a bath, it definitely needs some simple cleaning right now to see what kind of work it needs.

Eventually, the goal is to get it to look somewhat like this:

I remember 3+ years back when this was started, it's incredible.

This is usually the ONLY thread that I visit on Nasioc anymore (no offense), the work done here is amazing.

Do work. Keep it up. Can't wait to see it done. Respect.

You make the internet smile.

Ditto. Maybe when I have a part to sell, but this thread is 99% of my Nasioc browsing.

I'm contemplating selling this in its current condition if anyone is interested and the price is right. I just don't have the means or the motivation to work on it anymore.

Contact me privately ly if you are seriously interested.

This statement is very heartbreaking..... Don't do it. You will only regret selling it in the end. I'm still pissed i sold my junky 240sx... I doubt the love and attention to detail will be realized by another owner. They will just drop in a different model year engine and trash it together. It's like giving your little sister away to the pimp down the street.
