Default Detailer's Domain: 335i coupe - fixing other detailer's mistakes

2010 BMW 335 I Coupe

This car came to us with swirls and huge haze marks. The customer called me upset about what a local detailer recently did to his new car. What the detailer did was rip thru the car in 3 hours with a compound and glaze. i believe this was not necessary at all especially on a new car. Damage done. The car was fixed with M105 - SIP - PO85RD
Last Step = Swissvax Blau Weiss

What was done -
Exterior

- Wheels were prepped with Sonax Wheel Cleaner and cleaned up with various brushes
- Tires were spritzed down with P21S Total Autowash and washed down
- Wheel wells were spritzed down with P21S Total Autowash
- Wash down and rinsed
- Door jambs were cleaned up
- Clayed
- Dried
- Paint inspected and measured
- Wheel Wells were cleaned and dressed with Adam's Undercarriage Spray
- Tires dressed with Swissvax Pneu
- Masking
- 3 Step Paint correction (Meguiars M105 with an Uber Yellow, Menzerna Super Intensive Polish with an Uber Green and Menzerna PO85RD with an Uber Blue)
- Inspection with Fenix, 3m Sun Gun, Infratech, and natural sunlight
- Last Step - Swissvax Blau Weiss
- Rubber and Plastics Treated
- Exterior windows and mirrors cleaned and sealed
- Exhaust tips cleaned

Damn man nice work. I'm a detailer at a body shop and if they're swirls we just go over it with grey pad/blue pad lol. Never even heard of half that stuff, but it seems to work pretty well.

....excellent work as always. Unfortunately there are so many hacks out there these days that are self proclaimed "detailers" and haven't got a clue. ....and no business working on other peoples cars. Good thing there are still real ones out there like you that can fix their mistakes.

at our labor rate and 3 hours to clay a car, that would be more than what these detailers charge by about 40%. lol.

I guess doing this day in day out you have to learn how to work fast and effective.

thanks guys!

I wish I could say I was shocked that you got a "new" car that looked like that...but I was recently thinking about buying a Toyota Tacoma. The horrific buffing jobs I saw going on out in the bright...hot...direct sunlight were making the trucks they were working on look worse than if they had just thrown a coat of el cheapo Nu Finish or something on in the shade and walked away. You could see on nearly every truck on the lot the grind marks across the hoods from where these guys lined them up and just kept right on going without changing/cleaning pads. They were applying to the whole row of trucks...then going back to remove the wax. And wondering why they couldn't get it all off and why it looked so bad. This was on a 95 degree day.

It really was sad.

you would probably need something more abrasive like M105 or Power Gloss

Dealerships are also hiring people and or not monitoring the details they are doing on cars. There is an amazing disparity between a dealership provided detail (on a new car) and a good detail - to the point that dealerships are damaging new cars and giving them to customers.

you may want to go with a compound then follow with sip and super finish.

I've noticed this in a couple shots in previous detail, but do you dr the car before you clay or just start claying after washing?

Can it be done by hand or only with a buffer?

Most definitely with a buffer and a wool pad. It usually takes an aggressive combo to get sanding marks out..depending on the finest grit of paper that was last used. I hope they didn't ruin your car too bad! It's one of my favorites for sure.. you could always still take it to me .

you can do it by hand but I would say it would be easier by porter cable.
