Default For Street Use is 2.5L NA better than STI

For a car that is 95% street driven, will a 2.5L NA give a better performance than an STI, since the boost comes in only during freeway driving

So how are STI better than NA 2.5L for mostly street driving,
since the boost kicks in only after 3000 rpm

Even the WRX 2.0l is better on the street than the N/A 2.5.

By this logic.... my 2.2L SOHC, along with my grossly overweight car and crappy winter tires I should be able to beat everyone! PH34R M3333333!!!1!1!!

Maybe This is why Cavalier, sunfire, civic, etc etc think their cars are 'the new hotness'

I am definitely not a troll
I am looking for hard information
Yes on a freeway, turbos are better,
But turbos dont kick in until a fairly high rpm
which may not matter on a street
The car is a daily driver

if you always shift below 3k rpm, than yes, I'd get the NA 2.5.

you posted in the wrong forum. a turbo will still 'kick in' on a street if you use a lot of throttle. drive a turbo car and you'll understand. until you've driven a turbo car, don't post here.

Have you even driven a car with a turbo before? I'm guessing no.

Go drive one, then come back and ask any questions you still have. I went from an NA 2.5 to an STi 2.0 and there's no contest, 2.0 is much better. Now going to a 2.5 STi should be even nicer down low.

alot of guy in Subaru Conversions hadn't driven Turbo cars until they did the swap. But before that they had to ask questions if it was really worth it.

And the STi driven properly will always be a better street car than the RS. Even with the TurboLag with a slip of the clutch it virtually dissapears.

I own a 2.5 NA and have spent some time with a STi. Around town, the STi pwns my car. Sure the boost doesn't come fully into play until a lil' higher in the range, but it starts coming up soon enough with the STi that it's pretty amazing. Very different cars in town. The STi's a blast. The RS is fun, sure, but damn I want a STi in the garage.

with the right mods, the stock td04 will be spooling at 1800rpm. i've been in that car.

on the highway, i'd pick a Z06. cruise at 1800rpm doing 70 in sixth. then tap the gas for 5.7L of immediate torque. no shifting, no waiting. just u and triple digits.

i know ur not a troll, i've seen u posting for several months. but this is by far the your stupidest post. u should go out and meet ur fellow subau owners to get an idea of what the differences and drivabilty of these different engines are.

since the boost comes in only during freeway driving??????

What? boost comes about a second later after you step on the gas...

yet I have this one silly question to you turbo drivers, and since we are asking stupid questions, anyway... standing on the light and revving the engine, that gets the turbo going right?, however no air is flowing over the intercooler so...you can have the same efective pressure build up as opposed to when the car is moving... and also does the weather effect the cooling process, whether it'' 110F or 20 F ?????

Temp makes a big difference in turbo cars.

Why would anyone think the 2.5na> 2.5t? The 2.5t puts out close to twice the power.

The 2.5 NA in the RS is no dog though. It's got great low end grunt and really fun to drive around town. I would say the 2.5na is more city drivable than the 2.0T though. Turbo lag is a bitch in the city.

Doesn't the sti 2.5t motor actually create more torque down lower than the 2.5NA? The NA engine doesn't get max torque until 4,000+ rpm. The NA 2.5 is still a fun engine though and it get's close to 30 mpg.

Maybe if you like something slow for a daily driver.

Have you driven a WRX, let alone a WRX swapped GC8. The lag isn't bad.
