Default Impreza and Legacy alternator interchangeability

I am trying to figure out exactly what alternators are compatible with the '96 Impreza Outback EJ22 engine (2-wire alternator on mine) and am having one hell of a time finding the info that I need. Will the mid/late 90's legacy alternators work? They have a slightly different looking rear housing, but if it is the same plug type and mounting it would work, but I can't confirm this without actually buying one and I would rather not do that. Any help on this would be most appreciated.

AFAIC all Legacy/Impreza/Forester from 90 to present use the same mounting. The only difference being the plug type. Electrically they are all compatible if you find the matching plug.

Heck, an alternator from a Nissan Sentra will even bolt up and work...

Yeah the mounting and everything is the same, it's just the connector. I'm using the newer WRX alternator on my 90 Legacy. I just had to redo the plug. Using the older 3-wire alternators on a 2-wire system is probably less desirable.
