So it's been a while, but I thought that you guys would appreciate the predicament I got into this weekend on my way down to RI. Keep in mind, all this happened during the crazy rain storm we had last Friday.

1st warning: Car needed a jump a few weeks back, just figured it was the battery as it had been sitting for about 2 weeks.

2nd warning: Car had only been sitting for 1.5 weeks or so, and I needed a jump to get out of Boston. Thought battery was just shot, decided to drive for a while before filling up (only had 1/4 tank).

Pull in to grab gas, shut down, and car is completely dead, no dash lights, nothing. Takes a jump and starts but before I can get out of the station, it dies again. At this point, I figure it is probably the alternator as the car seems to be trying to run solely off the battery.

Turns out there's an NPD (National..something...direct) down the street, so we run there, they have an alternator and battery in stock. Good news, but still don't know how to get the car there as it seems like waste to get towed 300 yds.

Try a jump one more time, car starts, but dash lights are flashing on and off, I keep it from dying and get it down there. Long story short, alternator was dead at 66K and $450 later I have a new alternator and battery and the car runs great.

Cliff notes: Car died at worst possible time (murphy's law), not happy, should have seen the signs, why did my alternator kick the bucket at 66K?

NA, and then build it up. Very easy and very cheap cars to build with big improvements from each modification. Insurance is cheap too and it only requires 87 octane.

Put a built motor in it, done properly, and you'll be fine

Faith has been torn. No matter what I will always be worried that it will poop its pants. I have never pooped in my pants, well at least not in a few years. If I don't do it I expect my car not to.

No but you can have the motor. It would make a great paper weight.

I agree with your position here which is exactly why I did a build on my car and don't drive it lol.

This.

Most people with built Subaru motors don't even track it, let alone even Autocross it.

And you guys who have miata's can't wait for the next run and for the most part are faster. Guys like me forfeit a bunch of runs just to be safe and make it home. For the money I can build a bad ass monster miata for what I have into the pig sti. Haha you see what I did there?

I actually would have no problem tracking it, I'm just too lazy honestly. I have full confidence my motor would take on the track w/o a problem.

You need to get the car that fits the need. If I was really into autocrossing I would get a Miata in a heartbeat. Sweet cars for that. I personally love the feel of a turbo, and I couldn't get another car without forced induction, unless it's a beater of course for DD. Gotta meet your demands

I miss being turbo, but I love being able to drive to an event, wail on my car, and drive home. Especially because my 170WHP keeps up with everyone but brad (when he's not exploded)
