Question Buying WRX - where to get the best deal?

Hello guys,

I'm going to be purchasing a new WRX in the next 3 weeks and am currently gathering quotes from dealers. I've found one dealer over in Santa Cruz who quoted me $23,000 for one (I'm looking for a Blue 5-speed sedan with no extra added options other than maybe a rear spoiler)

I thought I might stop by here and see if anyone else knows a good dealer that can cut me a deal on one. Ideally I'm tryin' to just get a set price on one from a dealer, go down, write the check and drive away in a nice new sube =p.

edit: Must have been drunk and mistyped WRX as "WXR" in the subject line, fixed now.

i bought mines from south sf, and i didnt really like the dealers. and i didnt get quite a good deal either. so i say go to santa cruz and redwood city.
im not sure if the search option is working or not but if you do a search, youll find tons of info about bay area dealers.

Carlsen Subaru , [email protected]

Invoice (21977, Kelly Blue Book) + $350.

Without option that's about 22327.

That;s about 24830... OUT THE DOOR, INCLUDING TAX, desitnation and license.

Also, Carlsen wont let you test drive the WRX. This is a GOOD thing... so when you get yours, you'll know it hasnt been beated up. Test Drive? WHo needs a test drive? I didn't. Either you know or you dont But if you MUST, go to Ron Price Subaru (South San Francisco) and then if you like it drove another 20 minutes to Redwood City and talk to Larry Fung. Tell him Jason Gabler who waited 3 months for his white WRX sedan sent you

Wow, that's great info Jason (my name's Jason too =p). I'll definately give 'em a call tomorrow. So they'll really settle for only $350 above their supposed "dealer invoice"? Also, does what you said also include the $525 destination charge? If so that's fantastic.

I also got the test drive out of the way today at Steven's Creek Subaru, I already knew I'd love the car, the test drive simply confirmed it. While it'll take a little getting used to getting good boost at 4000 rpm (my 93 RX-7 gets peak torque at 2500 rpm....), I think I can live with it in trade off for reliability.

I'll definately give him a call tomorrow though.

I confirmed the invoice with Kelly Blue Book. Of course the dealers get their own cash-backs from the manufacturer so their actual invoice is lower... but so what. Those prices are pretty much what I paid. Best prices I've heard of. When I ordered my car it was $675 (january) over invoice. When I came in pick up and pay they told me the price had dropped to $350 over invoice. I got the enhanced security, car cover and bag, and that's it. All other things I will do myself. Most people I know are paying like $1000-$3000 more with the same $ amount of options.

As far as the boost thing goes, this is why test drives with ECU/ECM controlled turbo cars suck. Once you warm that puppy up, the car really lets loose. Depending on the gear, I've seen boost come up before 3000rpm.

I was playing with "safe mode" vs peak boost. As the engine warmed up maximum boost raise. At not completely cold, but not too warm max boost was about 90 kPa. By the time I was at normal driving temp, it was at about 98 kPa... aka 14.2 psi

stock =(

Default just got a wrx today...

At stevens creek, when I test drove the wrx last weekend. I told the salesperson I wasnt going to buy at the time but I was seriously looking. After the testdrive he walked up to me and showed me the invoice price. It matched KBB exactly. He stated that for 300-400 over I could have it. I was so stunned at the honesty. I came back this weekend and bought one. I have bought 3-4 cars in the past and never have I encountered such quick and upfront no bull**** salesmanship. Little things like that impress me. I dont really know the dealerships reputation but I figured it couldnt be that much worse than any other place I went to. The actuall purchase of course took longer than I wanted and it was tough telling them I didnt want all the extra paint and sealer crap. But you have to expect that. They want that extra gravy. They are there to make money.

hope that helped...

Default Stevens Creek

People really dislike Stevens Creek around here, but I have to say that my experience with them was a pleasant one. I agree with Greg...forgot the salesperson's name and am too lazy to dig out his business card, but he gave me a really good price on my WRX: $24k out the door.

I think I'm pretty set on going to Carlson Subaru, especially because of that Invoice + $350 deal holds true in two weeks when I'm ready to write the check.

This bit was just more icing -

Thumbs up

I got the Carlsen Subaru price of Invoice + $350. This was with a Costco card. Carlsen Subaru is the Bay Area dealer with the Costco connection. I just went there and showed Andreas Beckman my card and he showed me the invoice for the car I wanted. It was a great deal and a great buying experience, no haggling no problems.

Yeah, that's about right.

Santa Cruz Subaru. They are good guys, and you will want to take your car back for service there. If you bought your car there, they'll give you a rental car and free oil changes. Can't beat it!
