Aww man... Legacy doesn't get the keyless access/pushbutton start option that Outback does. Legacy needs Outback's new matte wood trim... looks much more real, IMHO. That's a swap I'd do. Nice to see there's a new "saddle brown" leather color on that special Outback trim. Anyone see a photo of that anywhere?

Am I reading the Appearance Package properly? Memory seats but not memory mirrors? That's only half a solution in my opinion. Adjusting the mirrors properly is more of a pain than the seats IMHO.

Why would they do that for Outback, and not similarly for Legacy?

It is like they STILL want Legacy to be the disfavored step-child, even now after cutting off it's performance variant.

Thanks I missed that,

We are looking for a new car, would maybe like a part time 7 seater, would like 30MPG or better

We have a 2010 Outback and like it avg 26 overall with 90% city miles

I like the changes and also looking at the XV.

Side note went and drove the new Infiniti JX35 very nice car, but it should be for $40+K

My gosh that new legacy 3.6r looks nice. I wonder if the R has a decent suspension on it.

The '12 rides pretty firm, but has a lot of roll in turns. The '13 is said to be "revised", but I'm not sure what's changed. I have H&R sport springs on mine, and it handles better, but it really needs matched dampers to help with wallowing over large bumps.

Hope SOA takes notes on how to package and price options from other manufacturers. For e.g. 2013 Nissan Altima has Technology Package option that includes Navigation, Blind spot warning, Lane departure warning and Pedestrian warning systems for $1,090. It is ridiculous that SOA bundles back up camera with moonroof for $1445, H/K Audio and AWP costs $1795 and navi with moonroof costs $2995.

Me too. I largely supported it, with my few glaring caveats, when it came out in 2010. But man, let me tell you: the folks at LegacyGT.com and SubaruOutback.org screamed about it, for the most part. Very reminiscent of when the 2008 Impreza/WRX came out, for NASIOC folks. Or the 2002, for that matter.

Change is always met with opposition, at first. Well, unless the design is just plain beautiful.

Nice to see the keyless access & start finally make it into the options list for the Outback. Hopefully it's available on the Legacy, too. And it looks like Subaru addressed the problem with the roof rack by allowing the crossmembers to slide farther apart for longer items. Good to see that corrected.
Can you expand (no pun intended) on this? Is there a picture comparison somewhere?

Anyone notice no 2013 Forester yet? The word was the redesign wasn't coming out until next year as 2014 MY. (which I believe)

SOA stopped taking orders for the 2012 Outback, Legacy, Tribeca and Forester for the MY change on 3/30 (according to their dealer email).

No word on the 2013 Forester yet though..... and I don't believe it is related to the center seat belt recall (based on the SOA dealer email).

Odd.

Costs dude. Costs. Nissan is a MUCH bigger company.

Odd.

Not odd. Probably no change(maybe colors) and a short MY. Pretty much same thing happened for the 08 Forester.

Ive been driving around a `12 Impreza and the more I drive it, the more I want a Legacy. I really like the Impreza for the most part, I just wish it was a bit larger, quieter, and had a bit more power. The `13 Legacy should fit the bill perfectly now that they fixed the body roll and are no longer using the old EJ engine design.

The Legacy feels big though it is shorter than an Accord, even the previous generation Accord. I like the wagon configuration and the better fuel economy (assuming not only on paper). The price of 5-door Impreza Premium with CVT compared to the base Legacy + Alloy wheels (assuming about 2012 price) is pretty close.
One more thing to consider is the model popularity and how hard would it be to sell it. Around here (NorCal), Outback and Forester are the most popular. I rarely ever see a Legacy. I believe the 5-door Impreza will be popular too.

Legacy does also get Keyless Access & Start (even if it doesn't have the same Special Appearance Package as the Outback).

From the press release:
Quote:
Increased Interior Comfort and Convenience

New seat fabric enhances comfort in the 2013 Legacy, while dark, glossy wood grain trim provides a luxurious appearance on Limited models. Limited trim level models for 2013 feature a new rear-seat A/C outlet. A new electro-luminescent instrument cluster in the Limited models integrates a 3.5-inch color screen for the multi-information display, which also shows EyeSight functions when the car is so equipped. With the Keyless Access & Start system, the driver can unlock the car by touching the door handle while carrying the remote control in a pocket or purse. (The trunk also has an unlock touch sensor.)
Presumably it will be available on the Legacy Limited models, though it wasn't stated explicitly in the press release, as it was in the Outback press release.

It will be interesting to see what the revisions actually are - it could be as simple as a thicker rear swaybar (which makes a big difference on the 2010-2012 for body roll)

I can appreciate that for sure, though I'd actually say I'm in the reverse situation. I own a 2005 LGT Limited, SWP with black interior. Great car, and I love it, but I really miss owning a hatchback, and it's been many years since I had one (late '90s). Plus, though I love my car's power, these days I have no time to tinker with cars and mod them, so frankly I'd be perfectly content with a 2012 Impreza Sport, definitely in hatch form. Probably 5MT even though the CVT gets slightly better mileage. I really like the '12 Impreza, at least from the front. The rear's a little too funky, but overall I think it's an improvement over the 2008-2011 model.

Plus, my LGT has 128K on the ticker, and of course older cars (especially turbo models) need more attention. Mine's been quite reliable, no issues in the four years I've owned it really, but there's always that nagging "what if?"

Y'know I really do wonder if Subaru will bring back the Legacy wagon. Though, for that to happen, they'd really have to separate the Legacy and Outback lines, and not just in name (as they have been, now). The Legacy would need a lower roofline, which costs money on the production line. It's very wishful thinking, but it'd be ideal to have the Legacy be shorter and a little slimmer, but still have a wagon or fastback option. With Subaru's budget, it won't happen, HOWEVER there is a resurgence of wagons in the USA. So there's hope for something....perhaps.

Enthusiast always think so

My previous Legacy was a wagon, that car was great. Now I don't want an Impreza because the back is too small, and an Outback doesn't interest me much.
