Then again, why was the tip not included in their price?

People who don't tip are just dicks.

I was in line at the coffee shop the other day when I noticed the receipt of the guy in front of me. No tip and the barrista's tip jar was empty-he had ordered less than $5 of stuff!? He then got into his brand new Mercedes M class and drove off. I left my customary tip and put a little extra in the jar. That being said I learned when I worked for a small wage which was supplemented with tips that I should never expect any. I'm not defending the misers, I'm just saying some people are not parted with their money. I learned to budget for my hourly wage-the tips were just icing on the cake. I do believe in rewarding good service, but when it sucks I've left a penny on the table before. I usually don't return to that place, either.

99.9% I would agree, but, I've had a few neglected restaurant/bar visits where the tip was just enough to even out my change, or I would write $0.00 just because they were terrible. They have to be pretty bad to set me off though...

I generally do 20% (because it's fairly easy to calculate) or 20% and round up or down to make an even number...unless they are horrible.
I used to tip very sparingly. But once I met Shannon, and see how much tips help her income...I've become quite a generous tipper. I usually give the pizza guy at least $5-8, depending on what I've got on me. I realize that you can't just give them a percentage tip on your order...they're spending their gas to get you a pizza. Least I could do is give the guy enough for a gallon or more of gas. |

Tips, by their very nature are a "gratuity" earned based upon how well they are serving me, and are NOT mandatory. After all it IS a SERVICE industry, and they are asking for a gratuity.
That being said I typically tip 15%, It'll go up if I go there often and had good service, likewise it goes down if I get bad service. I have left a fair share of 0% when service was deplorable. I let management know I was unhappy a few times. Pizza delivery is $2, mainly because they ALREADY include $2 in the price of my order. Coffee places very, if its a place Shelly goes to alot and loves I give them a $1 or 2, anywhere else it's whatever is left from the $5. Call me cheapskate or whatever you want... but to me, a tip is just a monetary "thank you". It's not mandatory nor is it set at a "standard" percentage. |

I ended up getting a job as a door man/bar back at a place I used to frequent because of generous tips to the bar tenders (who were very good at their jobs) and ended up making some good long time friends. Sometimes not being an ******* really pays off!

to me, it really depends on how the service is. Ordered from Papa johns one night, was told 30-45 minutes, which is standard for us on base. When it was all said and done, I finally took delivery of my food roughly two hours after my order was placed. You can guess how that went. |

What grinds my gears is when I buy "Import Tuner" magazine (they always sell me with an article about subies) and I read the article about a Unicorn 05 WRX. Long story short, they sell it like its a chick who's into cars who crafted a beast, when in actuality its a story about a girl who farmed out her labor and has never even performed an oil change on her ride. I'm sick of reading these articles and its reads like "So and So wanted to go faster, so they took their car to the experts over at shop X to do what they do." There's no story there.
I'm not denying the fact that after a certain point DIY loses value and you need some specialized expertise, but these articles just highlight task masters who have the resources to pay parts and labor for each mod. If I had the money I would buy my parts and have a mentor for the install. I would want to put my blood in it, sign random components, and know the ins and outs of my baby. I wouldn't just drop it off to the experts at west coast customs to pimp my ride, and I think these magazines should do stories on people with the actual maintenance journey. I'm all for show-cars, but of course anybody with a WRX and $39,000 extra cash sitting about can get fancy paint and rims and engine mods without getting a touch of grease on their hands. I know that many likely disagree and feel that its just as special when you pay someone because of creative control and blah blah but that's how I feel about it. |

^^ I agree!! Back in the olden days (like late 90's) Turbo & Hi-tech and Performance VW actually DID showcase people who did their own work on their rides. Went through 5 iterations and built it as the had funds.
Now it is like you say, people with money to throw at companies to build it for them. |

I always tip $5 to delivery people. I've been done the job and I know how it is. Unless of course they are unreasonably late.

If they're late isn't it generally do to the restaurant, not the driver? And are the tips then split up with the cook etc?

Wgmg: I got tased and OC sprayed this week so I can be certified to carry those two items for my military police duties on base.
OC spray sucks ass, and i won't even carry it on my duty belt because I wouldn't want to get contaminated with it after I spray a guy. I would much rather taser someone. |

Picked my car up from driven auto body today. I told them not to drill the front bumper. What did they do ? Drilled it. But it gets better. They put the old plate I had in the back on. They had to open the hatch to get to it which means they had to see the new plate. They also forgot my fog light covers and they broke my door ajar switch. Lost my tow hook cover so they have to order a new one. What a joke. I'll never take my car there again

The person who took some doorprizes out of the box while I was out of the banquet room settling up the tab... you're classy.
