Default Looking for recommendations

Good evening,
We just recently purchased a 2014 Subaru Impreza Hatchback sport, 2.0 liter 5 speed that will be our sons car in 6 months or so. He turns 16 in October and we want to do a few modifications to the car. A WRX was out of the question due to insurance for a 16 yr. old. We still wanted a Subaru for his first car due to safety reasons. We own a towing company and see many after results from accidents and have been very impressed with the overall safety of the car.
If anyone would be able to give some recommendations of modifications, we would appreciate it.
Do any WRX parts fit the hatchbacks?
Exhaust recommendations?
Wheels and tires? 5x100 but what offset?
Thanks in advance!

There aren't a lot of modifications you can do with the FB20 or with the car in general. Take a look at Tire Rack for ranges of offsets, widths and diameters that will work. From an OEM standpoint, any Impreza or Crosstrek wheel will work. Outback and Legacy went to 114.3 at some point. Not sure when. Do you know the history on any warranty work that's been done? We have a 13 Crosstrek (pretty much the same car) and had the short block replaced at 94k miles from oil consumption. The exhaust can be changed to make more noise. It will make zero power and you won't get the subaru rumble because the pipes are equal length.

Something you might want to consider and I know this will cost money. Find another Impreza with Eyesight. Your wallet will appreciate it from an insurance standpoint. Eyesight includes auto braking. Unfortunately, it's only on CVT cars. I'm considering one at this point.

I went through the accidents from Son #1 and am now in the midst of it with Son #2.

I commend you for not going with a WRX or some other stupid car for a new driver.

Good luck.

Good luck.
I got a loaner with that feature and after one day I turned it off immediately upon starting the car. After it hammered the brakes on me at 5am for the second time when there was no reason at all to do that I was done with that crap.

Maybe in a few years it will be refined but for now it just plain sucks.

I agree with above.

Exhaust for sound.
New to you set of rims for summer tires, use stock for snow tires if you get snow or all seasons if it gets cold but no snow.
Anything else is mostly cosmetic that makes the car look cooler. Plenty of people spend on looks.

If this is a CVT Impreza I would leave the exhaust stock. CVT with loud exhaust sounds horrible with a slipping clutch drone noise. I would leave the car completely stock, but if not, window tint is good, maybe lowering springs (Swifts if they make them for your car) and wheels.
