Default So you win the lottery what are you going to buy? Nov 2006 version

Me, beside a Car or two.

I've been looking at a Set of LCD Computer controlled binoculars.

Laser eye surgery.

Pay off debt.

A few 1000 DVD's and a few more DVD changers.

Home Theatre upgrades.

Expensive headphones.

Computer upgrades.

(depending on how much, a Fakespace room would be nice, or if not enough good HMD's)

If lots a Place in London and a place in Tokyo and a bigger second place around here.

I would also move everything out of my condo into a storage thingy and rent a BIG or buy a big bus like RV after taking lessons to drive one. Then take a road trip around Canada and the USA while my condo is remodelled and the basement finished, with fakespace room if possible.

plus a number of other things, what would you do?

Pay off the house.

Buy 100 or so acres in North Georgia and start a quail preserve.

Put the rest in the bank and invest.

A 3/2 house on the beachside, a 3/2 on the mainland, a 3/2 in Costa Rica.

Some land somewhere isolated and moutainous.

A race-bred GC8, a modded street STi, and an Audi RS4.

A lot of surfboards.

A lot of vacations.

But I'd keep my day job. (Firefighter)

More land up the side of my mountain. Build another house w/ huge deck/helipad on the side of said mountain. Pay for flying lessons (VFR, IFR, Complex, Multi, Commercial, Helo). Buy helicopter. Seek out addresses of other lottery winners. Drop eggs on their Ferraris from my helicopter.

How much money?
Lottery winnings can be anything from a $5 scratch card to a mamillion dollars.
Yes I just made that word up, 'mamillion'.

The amount won would affect my decision/choice.

Say 5 Million.

In Canada lotteries are smaller but you always get what they say it is up front and tax free.

Although 5 million wouldn't be enough to justify spending a couple million on a fakespace room; $25 million would though.

Five Mil...thats like $197.35 US.

But seriously I'd give $250K to my mom and sister both as well as same to my father inlaw (who wouldn't accept it) and setup an equal value 529 for my sister inlaws upcoming kids.
I'd fund a general trust for both of my kids at $1M each to fully mature when they hit age 31.
Budget $500K to complete uber renovations of my house and convert the carriage barn into a carriage house w/spa.
The rest I'd sock away to savings for long term investment/retirement and maybe leave out $30K for Mrs. Janq and I to splurge as 'mad money' for fun stuff and toys.

I'd continue to work but would donate more of my time to causes.
Maybe think about hiring a live in nanny cum masseuse as well.

I won lotto yesterday, sure it was only $13 and i prolly spent $50 over a few months getting it but it sure made me feel good. I spent it on more lotto tickets.

Pay off business debt and build custom home in sweet location. Buy M5 and put change in managed investment, sit back and enjoy for eternity. Finish off flying lessons and buy plane to go with of course.
