Nice job. Man I wish i knew you were getting tuned. I was in WA all week for work. I was in Bellevue I don't know if that is near you. Very nice power. I hope to get my car tuned soon. What dyno does dom have is that a mustang? 409 on a mustang is awesome.

Thanks guys!

Yeah Bellevue is about 30 minutes away from Marysville I do believe. I drove right through it on the way to his shop.

The Dyno is a Dynocom which doesn't read as low as a mustang. I think a stock 08' sti puts down 245whp on his dyno.

Recent pics of the car? I am fabricating a grill out of an old "tall" grill that will bolt to the bumper. With my external fans in place I cannot use a clip type grill. It will be only frame and mesh with the Subaru symbol in the middle.

Thanks guys, it was a lot of work and determination to keep going after all the setbacks.

The car looks the same as the previous pics, but I too need to make a grill. I'm going to do the same....use the taller frame from the stock grill and have some sort of "tastefull" mesh painted black and then will use a custom made "L7" piece in the center. I have a friend that has a 1 Million dollar computerized lazer cutter at his work. I'm going to design the L7 and then probably cut it out of stainless and polish it. If it turns out, I might have him cut out a bunch for other people.

^^^ Thanks! If they do a Legacy top scoob again, I might enter.

You know me too well . I'll try not to tear it apart and change the setup for a while. I don't know though.....I'm gathering parts for a 2.3 de-stroker high rpm motor with a rotated GT3076

I have a sickness!

I guess there is worse things to be addicted to.

The car is so bad ass right now though....I could stop now and totally be happy. The driveability of the speed density on this Link G4 is so smooth and refined, and the car just hauls ass without even getting into boost. I love how effortless and smooth the shifting is on the 6 speed with all the bushing upgrades and heavy weight knob. I was driving home taday with a huge grin on my face with the A/C blowing, cruise control set, and knowing I could blow the doors off just about any car I come accross

The only reason I'm gathering parts for a 2.3 de-stroker is because I like to have a back-up plan just in case anything breaks. I figure the high rpm smoothness of the de-stroker plus the short JDM gears will make for an amazing combo. Once you experience one, no other subaru motor compares. I think you need to have the short gears with it though, because it would suck with a 5 speed.

Update: Well, a couple days after the tune, it was confirmed the head gaskets were leaking under high boost. We had some coolant spew out of my overflow bottle on the dyno, but the temp gauge never moved past normal and we thought maybe I just over-filled it, and I had never heat loaded the motor like we did doing a bunch of pulls on the dyno. I emptied the overflow and drove 100 miles toward home and stopped for gas, the level was the same (about an inch in the bottom) and the car was running normal on the temp gauge, so I thought I was good.

A couple days later, I took a buddie for a ride and after doing a few pulls, the temp gauge started rising and the overflow bottle was full again . The Cometic .040" gaskets combined with setting the torque on the ARP head studs to 85ft lbs proved to be the downfall. I guess ARP has since raised the torque value to 90 ft lbs., and Dom says they torque to 95 ft lbs on the Cometics and don't have any issues. My motor was put together back when ARP had just raised the torque value to 85 ft lbs from 72, so we thought we would be good to go....not so much.

The good news is that I'm really good at pulling the motor on my car. I also just pretended it was a full blown race car, because their motors get pulled just about after every race, and tear them all the way down before the next race. This way I wouldn't be wrenching pissed off . Dom advised me to go with factory gaskets and torque to 90 ft lbs on the outers and 95 ft lbs on the inners.

Pics:

Got the motor all torn down and cleaned the mating surface with acetone

Same with the heads, everything is looking good

I decided to copper coat the gaskets to help things seal up good since I wasn't going to re-surface the heads

Motor all back together and going in the car

All I'm waiting on now is new exhaust gaskets I ordered, and my new turbine housing.

I finally got Blouch Turbo to sell me one of their new, one piece cast, TD06 8cm housings for the Dom3. The old one was leaking a bit at the welds and was re-welded, but it's leaking again. I tried to get it installed before my tune, but couldn't get Blouch to sell me one in time. They finally decided to sell me one, and I should have it tomorrow. I will have to blast it, ceramic coat it, and then bolt it on with the rest of my exhaust and she will be back on the road.

I'm planning to go to the Big NW Meet, so hopefully I can get it back together in time.

AWESOME BUD!
Thank you for the kind words and not giving up. Many other customers would have walked away blaming their tuner for their issues. I'm glad we finally got her to run like she should. I'm also happy to hear that you are going back to the OEM gaskets (that's what I built the block for anyway).

I look forward to seeing you at the meet. I believe we have a free spot in our booth and I'd be honored to have your car in it.

Have a good one man,
Dominic

You would be honored? I would be honored, but I don't know if she is booth worthy with my license plate grill

Yeah, blaming other people for stuff that happens doesn't get you anywhere. It's always the tune's fault, right .

I just appreciate all your time you spent trying to troubleshoot, and doing the R&D to find a solution to the knock issue. It really is amazing at how much of difference spark plugs and a header can make! I mean, the car ran pretty good before, but you knew it wasn't it's full potential and it wasn't "right". So you didn't give up until it was dialed in. I have heard that from other people too where you went out of your way to troubleshoot a problem on a car that had come into the shop that way. I've seen a lot of other tuners just kick the car off the dyno and say "bring it back when it's fixed".

Thanks again, and see you at the show!

Dave, you got the fozzy back together? Did you re-tune?

I think I will park next to the Fozzy. What time should I be there to park in your booth?

Update:

Car is running really good, and almost feels like it's a bit more snappy with the tighter quench from ditching the thicker gaskets.

Drove 100 miles each way to the Big NW Meet and I'm really happy with the decision to make sure the A/C and Cruise Control were left intact. The car is just so nice to drive like a normal car, but when you want to have some fun just floor it

I felt really honored to be invited to park in the Maxwell Power booth at the show. They saw me in the line and waved me over to dodge some cones and come in the back way to their booth. It felt like VIP treatment .

I got a lot of positive feedback from people looking under the hood and that felt really good after all those hours slaving in the shop. It was cool to have people appreciate my design and look I wanted for the car. All in all it was an amazing time!

couple pics:

I got to pull in behind most of the MPS cars right next to one of their tables and park next to a cool Turbo S2000 they built for a customer.

My very pregnant wife passed out in the passengers seat . She was such a trooper!

Now I can finally enjoy the car and plan to take her out to the WCSS13 this year since I missed the last two. I will be working on some other small detail work and plan to do a full repaint this winter hopefully.

more updates to come.
