Default Is there really nowhere to get a code pulled for free?

Ok living in the US if i had a CEL i would head to autozone, advance, oreilly, etc, hell even walmart to get the code pulled...

i searched and it seems the only way to get a code pulled is to find someone with a cable/reader...

so is there really no car parts stores that pull codes for you? Pretty pathetic if that's the case..they're only hurting their business....

plus people go get the code read and then buy the part needed to fix the problem.....but instead people get a code and say **** it i'm not paying to get it read.....and drive around with a shot 02 sensor or whatever it may be....booom mr. parts store dont get no sales!

i mean im pretty sure the big auto parts stores in the US wouldn't do it unless it was profitable....

That's it right there.
Profit margins are tight in Canada with our fees and high taxes. As such, you get bitter small businesspeople who forget that it's customer service which dictates their profits.

Why not pick one up?
Crappy tire, or Princess Auto always have these things on sale.

I'd lend you mine, but I lent it out months ago, and the arsewhole still hasn't returned it. Plus, I can't remember which arse I lent it to, as it was so long ago.

In the VIC FAQs there are several VIC members who can pull the code........for FREE!

But you would have know that, because you searched.

Bar-F1 (Richmond)
Gethin (Langley/Downtown)
Penphoe (Burnaby)
420WRX (Vancouver Island)
Petrie (Squamish)
J-Chow (Richmond)
JikJak (Richmond)
kuldud (Delta)
Polaris (South Vancouver)
timbits (Burnaby)

Yeah, like no one locally can do it for free.

thanks for the smartass comment at the end....but as everyone understood (well apparently everyone but you) i was trying to confirm the fact that there are no STORES that will pull codes for you...like there is in the US...sparking a discussion as to why canadian stores dont do this....

yes i know there are people who will read the code for wrgb....but its kind of a pain to have to send pm and organize to meet someone just to get a code pulled...

If there are several local friendly people to help you out, who the **** cares if a shop/store wont help you for free?

Keep your smartass label to yourself tough guy. Either pay for a shop and the extra "convenience" to you, or politely ask a local to help you for free. It's not that difficult to PM someone to arrange a meet up if you're not lazy. I know for a fact you arrange meet ups with guys to work on cars all the time. This is no different.

wrgb could have sent a PM to one of the people who read codes, after searching the FAQ, instead of sending you a PM asking where to go.

PS: No hard feelings, I <3 you Jeff. I just don't get why it matters why no stores do it when you have access to all these friends to help out.

lol man you stilled missed the point.....but oh well....

canadian tire rents tools....do they rent the code reader? that could work?

again i know theres people here i can pm....but when i get a call from a friend who has a CEL and doesn't have a subaru im not going to say "hey go on your interwebs, go to vic.nasioc.com, register, pm this guy...he'll hook u up!"...lol

i still cant believe there is nowhere in vancouver that will read a code for someone for free (again, im not talking VIC members helping eachother out here...im talking about where average joe can get a code read)...maybe we're just not looking hard enough?

Well maybe you should buy a code reader and setup a store to allow people to use it for free then?

i guess i'll do that....but seriously...stuff like this gets me so irritated....i mean 100$ to read a code....thats like 1 hour of labor....i could read a code using only my wang in less time than that....

i love canada and all but sometimes i just wish the US would come take over...

Hey Guys,
So i guess im the reason this tread was started.
I has just left my house this morning to go skiing,
and after driving about 2km the check engine light came on, and stayed on.
I KNEW something like this would happen soon after rolling over to 100,000km (bad luck)

Ive never had one before, so i texted Jeff (thanks for the help BTW!)
apparently a steady light, means its an immisions problem.
also phoned Subaru (Wolfe and Specialty)
Specialty said... come give us 77$ and we will check it out
Wolfe said not to worry, sometimes they go out after a while, give it 3-4 days.
then we'll talk.

However i dont like spending money if i dont need to.

If there is ANYONE around the langley area that would be willing to meet up and pull the code for me that would be awesome.
just so i know what im dealing with

Thanks in advance!
