Default Cadillac CT6 Fails, Goes Out Of Production Impala Too

Caddy’s range-topping sedan goes into the history books alongside the Blackwing V-8 engine

The Cadillac CT6, the company’s range-topping sedan and spiritual successor to the iconic Fleetwood, will be discontinued in January 2020. A highly anticipated vehicle that should have revived Cadillac’s presence on the full-size luxury, the CT6 leaves the scene after only four years in production. Although the discontinuation can also be attributed to the fact that General Motors is retooling its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant for electric vehicle production, the CT6 was a disappointment sales-wise, with less than 40,000 units sold since its introduction.

Big Fuss, Small Success

Marketed as a big breakthrough and the car that will put Cadillac back on the full-size luxury map, the CT6 is one of the most expensive vehicles the company has created. GM’s premium division invested million upon millions in the CT6 and used it to debut several technologies, like the rear camera mirror and Super Cruise. What’s more, the Omega platform is exclusive to this car, so every single penny that went into its development is pretty much lost. The same goes for the Blackwing V-8 engine that debuted into the CT6-V at the 2018 New York Auto Show.

Despite all these investments and efforts, the CT6 wasn’t as successful as Cadillac hoped. GM sold only 9,169 units in 2016, while 2017 became the sedan’s best year with 10,542 examples. Sales dropped to 9,668 in 2018 and things won’t get better in 2019 with only 5,675 units sold until September. In less than three years, monthly CT6 sales dropped from almost 1,300 units to less than 600.

Total sales from March 2016 to September 2019 come in at 35,054.

That’s as much as the XTS managed in 2017 and 2018, before being discontinued in 2019 after seven years on the market.

For reference, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, one of the CT6’s biggest competitors, moves more than 15,000 units per year since 2014.

Cadillac has yet to say whether the CT6 will have a successor or not, but it could be replaced by an electric sedan at some point in the future.

The Chevrolet Impala Is Getting the Axe too.
Alongside the CT6, GM will also discontinue the Chevrolet Impala, built at the same plant. The last Impala will roll off the production line on February 2020, 21 years since the nameplate has been revived for the third time. By axing the Impala, Chevrolet phases out an iconic nameplate that goes back to 1957.

GM should write a book on how to ruin cars.
I expect the CT4 (what used to be ATS) to be dumped too.
I so wanted an ATS-V.

Cadillac has been a zombie brand for a decade. Nobody cares. Take away the Ridiculous Escalade and they have nothing. They have screwed the pooch on marketing for a decade as well. All you knew they made was the V series. But time and time again, they were warned you cannot base your entire lineup over a performance sedan.

Then they tried hipster marketing with coffee shop inspired showrooms, which failed. Then they hired the Audi guy to help them, but the issue is Caddy is not Audi. Caddy should have NEVER made a performance sedan. They should stick to uber luxury and insane comfort.

Lincoln saw this and has been eating Caddy alive. Do you see any V series Continental. Nope, but you get luxury and LOTS of it.

Caddy needs yet another reboot. If not they can piss off.

That is really to bad. I love the V cars, specially the ATS. What a great platform but it seems they just failed to execute it properly .

They are on their way to destroying the whole V branding that they established. So instead of continuing to build on that, they neuter it and start over with presumably the Blackwing name. How efficient.

2008-2014 CTS gave me a lot of hope for the future of the brand, especially with the V. But that was short lived.

Legacy. At one point in time, they were at the tops of American luxury. They still try to ride that old reputation while their products consistently fall short.

Cadillac flutters around with their sedans consistently while they are late to the CUV/SUV market. Then they release the FWD based XT6 (basically a fancier Traverse). At least Lincoln shows a bit of hope. They offer the similarly sized and priced RWD based Aviator that just excels beyond what Cadillac offers in almost every way.

Default 2020 Chevrolet Impala Is U.S. News’ Best Large Car For The Money —

Since It’s Demise Day for Impala I Thought we should send it to it’s coffin with a meaningless award from a meaningless website/ ragazine.

Quote:
2020 Chevrolet Impala Is U.S. News’ Best Large Car For The Money

U.S News & World Report has published its 2020 Best Cars for the Money list, with the 2020 Chevrolet Impala recognized in the Best Large Car for the Money category.

“The cars, SUVs, and minivans that earned a U.S. News Best Cars for the Money award represent the best combination of quality and value in each of their respective classes,” U.S. News says.

The award winners were selected based on the overall score they received in U.S. News car rankings, as determined by reliability data, safety data, and reviews. Each entrant’s value was determined by the five-year total ownership costs as reported by Vincentric, and real transaction prices from TrueCar.

Of the 11 categories covered, the 2020 Chevrolet Impala was the only product from General Motors on the list.

“A big, comfortable car does not have to break the bank, and the 2020 Chevrolet Impala proves this with its competitive starting price,” U.S. News writes.

The outlet highlights the Impala’s “strong” naturally aspirated 3.6L LFX V6 engine, which spins out 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels by way of the M7W six-speed automatic transmission.

U.S. News also said the 2020 Chevrolet Impala provides “a serene driving experience, with an agreeable ride and controlled handling,” while also highlighting the sedan’s spacious seating and raft of infotainment features, such as a Wi-Fi hotspot, eight-inch touchscreen, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Unfortunately, Chevrolet Impala production is set to end next month, per a memo distributed to employees at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck facility. Currently in its tenth generation, this isn’t the first time the Chevrolet Impala nameplate has been put on a shelf. Nevertheless, customers will continue to be able to buy the 2020 Chevrolet Impala for some time to come, as inventory will remain available at dealers around the nation even after production ceases.

Chevrolet Impala Discount Cuts Price By $3,000 In January 2020

GM’s plans to discontinue the Impala led to a few notable incentives during the first half of the 2019 calendar year. However, Chevy has since scaled back its offers for the full-size sedan. So, for the month of January 2020, a new Chevrolet Impala discount offers $3,000 off all 2019 models. Meanwhile, a second offer discounts all 2020 models by $2,500.

Incentives

Nationwide Chevrolet Impala discount offers for the full-size sedan during the month of January 2020 are as follows:

2020 Impala (all models): $1,500 customer cash + $1,000 bonus cash = $2,500 total discount
To qualify for the bonus cash incentive, buyer must be a GM Cardmember as of January 2nd, 2020.
2019 Impala (all models): $2,000 customer cash + $1,000 bonus cash = $3,000 total discount
To qualify for the bonus cash incentive, buyer must be a GM Cardmember as of January 2nd, 2020.
Interested parties should note that the $1,000 bonus cash incentive can be combined with select Chevrolet Impala discount offers, as shown above. Additionally, all of the above offers will run through February 3rd, 2020 except for the bonus cash offer, which will remain valid through March 2nd, 2020.

For reference, here are the applicable 2019 and 2020 Impala trim levels and their corresponding starting MSRPs, destination freight charge included:

2019 Impala:
LS – $28,895
LT – $31,395
Premier – $37,595
2020 Impala:
LT – $32,495
Premier – $37,595
As such, the headlining Chevrolet Impala discount brings the price of a 2019 LT model down to $28,395, making it more affordable than a regularly priced LS model. Meanwhile, the overall starting price for the 2019 Impala drops to $25,895. Alternatively, buyers who opt for 2020 models will see a discounted starting price of $29,995.

Incentive for the United States of America, unless otherwise specified.
Some customers may not qualify for this offer.

The Chevrolet Impala is a full-size sedan. It is the biggest Chevrolet sedan currently offered, slotting above the subcompact Chevrolet Sonic, compact Chevrolet Cruze and midsize Chevrolet Malibu.

The current model was introduced for the 2014 model year and represents the tenth generation of the storied Impala nameplate. It rides on the GM Super Epsilon platform shared with the second-generation Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac XTS.

Compared to its ninth-generation predecessor, the tenth-gen Impala is an all-new vehicle that is larger, sleeker and more modern. Chevrolet modified its strategy for the new model, as the ninth-gen model was sold to rental fleets in significant quantities, while the tenth-gen is primarily intended for purchase by consumers at the retail level. This condition alone has resulted in a strategic decrease in sales volume of the current model.

As announced in November 2018, the Chevrolet Impala will be discontinued after the tenth-generation model. This means that it will not see an 11th generation model.

The Chevrolet Impala is assembled at the following plants for global markets:

GM Detroit-Hamtramck factory in Michigan operated by GM USA
GM Oshawa factory in Ontario operated by GM Canada
Both facilities are slated to be idled in 2019 as a result of decisions undertaken by Chevrolet parent, General Motors.
