Jay,
Cometic headgaskets seem pretty popular for AFI. Have you considered one of those? I know it's thinner (0.043" IIRC) than the 2.5 DOHC, but not as thin as the SOHC. klug |

hmm, ive never heard of a cometic head gasket before. i did some searches and it seams like this is deffinetly the way for me to go. axis power racing sells these so now i just need to cross my fingers that theyll have them in stock and to fit my application. are there any other places that i might try? also, i know that most heads are universal but how much do the gaskets differ? becides bore size are they pretty much the same, id imagine the closed deck and semi close deck blocks would require a different head gasket but do i need to specify my my00 ej25?
thanx for the advice klug. jay |

just got off the phone with the guys at cometic and was told that where my block is already o-ringed there gaskets wont work. id have to pull the o-ring out and have my block milled smooth and they dont make anything without a built in o-ring... so my search continues, any help locating a copper head gasket would be much appreciated.

ive done many searches and have read that a few places can make me a gasket and the only place that i found to actually have a part number for them is in australia. any know of a closer place that i can just call and order it and not have to wait for them to make me a set?

so that's what happened?
try http://www.xcceleration.com/contact.htm they use copper head gaskets in their ej25 builds. I'm not sure if they use the o-ring or if the shave it down but it's worth a shot. |

you might call or email rallispec, all the help that I can give is, they built the motor in my car. 2.2T shortblock with phase 1 DOHC heads, the receipts say 'custom copper head gaskets'' @ 242.00 Each. The heads where milled when installed.
All the info I can offer.... Jay |

at first i wanted copper cause thats what some of the big engine builders are going with, then after being told about the cometic i did some research and found that they were the way to go, but then i found out that cometic doesnt make any gaskets without a built in o-ring so i was back to copper. today i called axis power racing and found out that they make custom cometic gaskets(some with and some without o-rings) and they have them in stock. so now what im going to do is get the cometic gasket and if my blocks o-ring is small enough ill pull it out and get the gasket with it built in but if its too big(which i think it is) he wants me to pull it out and replace it with stainless steel(copper 0-ring now) and get the gasket without. fun never ends

heh... you see my threads about never ending cycle of death..
i''ve been told that copper should only be used when you expect to do tear downs all the time... ie don't last that long... but i have no experience with them... how much boost are you running to start blowing gaskets... do you think i'm close to blowing one? |

Give Paeco Industries a call. http://www.paeco.com I had purchased some copper gaskets from them for my 2.2ltr engine. I forgot the cost though but I remember them seeming to be cheap. Unfortunately they never got installed because the shop I dropped them off at shutdown and the guys split-up and disappeared. Good luck! |
