Default green test plug tune VS. unplugged?

Trying to tune a JDM ej205 to run well with my USDM EJ205 ecu and intake/harness. I"m having problems with surging. It surges roughly in 2cnd / 3rd/ 4th gear between 3-5K rpm with most to full throttle. It pulls very hard when it surges the falls off. Lets call the strong pulls a 10 on a ten point scale. In 1st gear it tends to pull clean. If I back off the throttle it will pull clean in 2,3, 4th, but not as hard.

If I start and drive it with the green plugs connected it pulls clean and smooth, but about a 7-8 out of 10 on the power scale. Is there a different tune that the engine runs when the green plugs are connected??? Is this the "fail safe" maps that you can see in Rom raider when looking at the tune? Any Idea why it doesn't surge with the green cable together?

Also as asked in another thread as well. I am not running aCVS due to USDM sensor incompatability with EJ205. I've tried to turn those camshaft position codes off, in the tune, but when I do that the engine will not even start. Any Idea how to get rid of that CEL in the tune, but still have the engine run?

2005 wrx wagon

you should not have cam position codes with a usdm ecu because it does not know there are extra sensors. its just looking at the one driver side one which should still be there. you probably have to put the non avcs pulley on because it might be seeing the pulses being too late in relation to the crank sensor.

USDM EJ255 in a 06 baja has 2 camshaft position sensors. One on each head(rear top). The USDM sensors are 3 wire hall effect type sensors which do not read the tabs on the JDM camshafts correctly. JDM sensors are 2 wire magnetic type sensors which do not provide the correct signal to the USDM harness/ECU.

The EJ 205 I have does have a driver side sensor on the front of the engine. There is no plug for this sensor on the USDM harness and this sensor does not exist on the USDM EJ255 for 06' baja.

Lots of variation from year to year on these engines/ecus.
