^^^That's probably the case.
Count the pins on the cable (9) and then on the port on the laptop. I think you'll find it has 15 pins which is VGA not serial.

So, is anyone actually runnning this on their Mac via VPC?
I only saw 3 posts in this thread that mentioned a Mac and it was a while ago. If it works I am going to get the Tactrix cable so that I can log my new engine. If not, I will have to look into a cheap laptop. Thanks. |

I have downloaded the Tari software and have the cable (from Accessport) and am just wondering if anybody has written a procedure on how to use the software correctly. I am a noob to datalogging and don't want to fry the ECU. Is it as simple as plugging it in... selecting the right COM port and firing up the car to go datalog? If there is a link to a previous procedure guide I would grealy appreciate it. I've read the user guide and wanted to double check everything. Thanks.

Hey guys/gals quick question.
I have the Belkin USB->Serial adapter. For some odd reason I cannot manage to have the ecuExplorer recognize the ECU. Does anyone have this adapter and is successfully reading logs etc? --- The Belkin is recognized by the laptop, Win XP SP2 with all updates. |

On the tari forum I belive there is a list of adapters that work properly. I don't recall the belkin being one (I could be wrong). For some reason I think I rember they saying the RadioShack adapter works fine?

At 24 pages long, I dont think this can be considered a Hijack.. but.. since Calvin has stopped working on ecuExplorer, and for other reasons, I've started a similar program of my own. It's main purpose is for sensor display and logging. NOT for flashing. It works with the Tactrix OpenPort cable, so I thought you guys here might be interested in it. It's still in development, but comming along nicely.

Enginuity has a different mission that JDash though. It's main job seems to be for the modification of ecu maps. The job of JDash is for realtime display only. I created JDash for my in car PC, so I could watch the sensors on the LCD.

I think Jeramie's point is that Enginuity already has logging working and perhaps your time may be best spent on enhancing an existing one instead of reinventing the wheel. Of course, if you don't program in Java...

Enginuity is to edit images, but the enginuity logger that the link links to is a logger with a dash display (and graph display). I wasn't trying to put down your work, but no sense in having 2 people work on the same projects. Paul (person working on enginuity logger) is doing a great job, and I'm sure he could use help. I just figured I would point it out incase you had a interst in contributing.

Ah.. Hadn't seen that part of Enginuity. I'll go have a closer peek at it.
There might not be enough overlap though. JDash is being designed primarily for sensor display within a CarPC. And, JDash will be fully skinnable. It's logging capabilitys come 2nd. Plus, JDash will, in the end, support OBD-I, OBD-II, ElmScan and any other interface I can get my hands on. But.. I'll still have to look closer at Enginuitys logger. As for 2 projects with the same mission.. It's not really a waste of my time. 1, I'm learning some good new stuff with Java. 2. competition is good. |

My son has used this adapter with his laptop in conjunction with DL1, the predecesor of ECU explorer. This was with Windows XP pro on a Dell Inspiron 9100.

I just read all 24 pages of this awesome thread on this awesome software. I downloaded the software too but have not yet forked out for a cable as I didn't find out if it will work on my 97 Legacy. (that's why I read the whole thing). There were a few tantilizing mentions but nothing definitive. Then I find the discussion moved to the TARI forum but dont have time to read all that just yet so I'll pose the question here in the hope that someone already knows: can it read my ancient ECU?

Glad you like it. I designed it for an in car PC app from the get go. As for the configurable and skinnable interface. Well.. I'm still working on the documentation on the main website. It will eventually explain how to setup a skin, and configure a sensor file. Have you looked over the site lately? Also, if you want to get into a dialog on how to create a skin, or configure a sensor file, you can start a thread in the JDash forums. That mgiht be a better place for it. limeylight If memory serves, the my97 is OBD-I. Is that correct? If it's OBD-II, then JDash will work for you. I'm still working on Subaru OBD-I support. I'm working with a guy in Austria of all places. The SSM protocol is still supported on older Subies, but the format is different. And you'll need a different connector. |

You'll probably be best off with an ELM cable, which you can find on google. It won't work with any of the openecu software though.. :\ It will be easy enough to add other interfaces like the ELM in Enginuity once the logger is released though, just need the cables to test.
