You want a bigger motor? Why to use up more gas? The VW will have a bigger motor, but the WRX will have more potencial. You can build a WRX motor to be a beast.

Its a no brainer........WRX!!!! You can always dump a bigger 2.5L motor into it later.

different way of looking at it i guess.
i am totally in love with the motor in the WRX. to think that a little 2.0L motor will let you go so fast once the proper parts are bolted on and tuned.

Great little motor.
sounds god damn good also.

There is nothing like low end torque a V8 can put down. I test drove an 05 GTO for fun and man was it amazing. If gas was a bit cheaper I'd seriously think about getting one.

Why would you even consider selling that collectible and going for a WRX? I love my Rex but I have driven a Firehawk on several occasions and for it's time they are still amazing. What year and number is yours? Any pics?

With a few choice bolt ons, the little Rex will surprise you.....AND the hawk.

A Vr6 will get walked by a wrx...

With $60 bucks in mods, I stay a car ahead of my buddies (auto) SS (repeatedly, time after time). Torque is nice, and theres nothing like a nice V8, but if you're not getting a V8, why would you get a Vr6? (have owned one). It smooth and torquey, but they're not quick and expensive to mod. The WRX was hands down faster, and more fun to drive...

Uh, have you factored reliabilty into your decision? VW has one of the worst 5-year reliabilty records while Subaru is in the top 3 in the same catagory.

Your bigger-motored VR6000 VW won't be doing you much good when it's in the shop once a month.

Isn't one of the GT3000's an awd v6? I'm not a mitsu guy but I thought so.

The 3000GT VR4 TwinTurbo. The Dodge Stealth RT version is cheaper, lighter and more reliable. But, both are heavy cars that can be very expensive to own and mod. Clutch, transmission, transfer case, struts, brakes and tires do not last long. Also, chrome plated alloy wheels leak air.

I hope you think long and hard about any VW or Subaru as a replacement for a FireHawk. It's been about 4 months for me and every day it gets harder to convince myself the Subaru wasn't a huge mistake.

Bigger displacement + Turbo + AWD = Porsche.

But I suppose that's out of the question...

Yeah, I'm not even sure why you're debating. Get a WRX and an AP stage 1($595) and you'll be putting down these numbers:

0-60 mph : 4.9 seconds
1/4 mile : 13.9 @ 96 mph

If you want a bigger VR6 motor and AWD then maybe find a used R32.

The only worthy 6 in the VW line-up nowadays is the R32. And good luck finding/buying one of them.

(previously owend 98 GTI VR6 and 93 Corrado VR6).

Gutted stock exhaust (always under estimated )
Part time (only on at full throttle) MBC @ 16psi

(homemade MBC $10, solenoid $30 from Grainger, switches $5, wiring and tubes cover the rest).

This gave me 211 whp about two years ago with no PTFB. I also ran a stage II unichip for a few months, but I didn't see much gain, and I was still very rich without it, so I sold it. So yeah, for $60 you can have an 02-03 wrx, without PTFB, that runs 13's. I call it the school loan setup...I've run it for about 70k miles...

It sounds to me like you don't know much about either car. A real VW guy will tell you to dump the VR6 for the 1.8T. The 1.8T engines are more tunable than the VR6 and the car is more tossible with the lighter weight.

Quality also comes into play. On my dealership (Bob Baker VW & Subaru) they have 15 VW mechanics and 2 Subaru mechanics. The fit and finish on the VW is their main fault and people are always bringing those cars in to get fixed. True die hard VW lovers know that is the price that they have to pay to own a VW and they're happy with that.

In short the VR6 has nothing on the 1.8T nor the EJ25. Stop looking at the liter size it only tells you so much...these aren't muscle cars here.

if you dont want to do any mods, i find the VR6 to be the most rewarding to drive

but if you do like to play...then no question with the turbo choices

The VR6 isn't worth the extra price over the 1.8T for a minuscule amount of performance stock.

Do you NEED to get rid of the Firehawk? I decided long ago I didn’t want to get rid of the mustang – it’s just so fun to play with. The trouble is I hated driving it in the winter, so I decided I wanted an impreza for the winter, but keep the mustang for the summer once it was paid off. That’s what I did – I actually wanted a cheaper 2.5RS, but got a really good deal on the WRX. So that’s my advice if you are looking for something better suited to winter driving: keep the trans am for the summer, find an older 2.5RS to play in the snow.
