Pioneer AVH-P2400BT with Metra Axxess unit. Also installed Pioneer's XM satellite receiver.

When I'm using FM radio or am listening to MP3's on a USB stick, the steering wheel's up/down seek buttons select the next FM preset or the next MP3 in the folder (as expected). But when I'm in XM mode, the up/down seek buttons select the next channel in the category rather than the next programmed preset.

Any solutions? I listen to XM a lot. Is there a way to get the up/down buttons to select my programmed XM presets?

You're not the only one. That's one reason why I put the Pioneer double-din head unit in my car.

did you do it yourself? I am looking at some Pioneers, and just saw a Sony that I liked...I havent ever replaced a HU in my cars, but I really dont like the stock '13 HU for the Sport Premium..but that wouldnt matter much because I hated the one in the Touring Forester I just traded...its the same as the impreza limited non-nav and would have changed it regardless..I have been lookin on ebay and amazon, as I do not want to pay retail..

Yes, I replaced the HU myself, using the great info gleaned from this forum.

Most of the info you need is in this very thread. Have you read all 12 pages of this thread yet?

Just thought I'd add this if there is anyone looking for a cheap double DIN that is packed full of features. I installed a Pioneer AppRadio 1 in my '12 Sport Premium about a week ago. The speakers do sound more crisp/better than before, especially at medium/higher levels of volume. For a $200 head unit that includes bluetooth, pandora, navigation and opportunities for a lot more (if you jailbreak your iPhone), I would definitely recommend others to consider this unit if they use an iPhone 4 or 4S. I have not experienced many of the problems I read about on this unit (namely having to switch between apps on the phone rather than the HU itself; just a side note, I did update to the latest firmware, so maybe Pioneer finally ironed out many of these bugs?). In my opinion, the media display on this unit is right up there with the best of them (it actually looks modern, not like its from the late 90s/early 2000s). Navigation works great and is super easy to use. Steering wheel controls integrated perfectly with ASWC module. I also removed the stock USB/AUX inputs in the center console and fabricated my own little module that holds a bypass switch and a grommet that allows me to route the Pioneer iPhone cable into the center console.

Default 6cd install in 2011

I'm a newby and was wondering if someone could help me address a change over I'd like to do. I have a 2011 STI 4dr with the stock single cd radio. All I want to do is switch it out for a 6cd unit. Yeah I know the sound in the oem units are great but I only use it for background while I'm driving the mtns.

Can I use a 86201fj620, pf 3386a-a, cm621ub radio from a 2012 WRX in my 2011 STI and still use the steering wheel controls?

Thx,

Jeff

BrDb, that's a very compelling HU for an upgrade to the stock system (I'd put it in a Crosstrek). The only issue for me is that I have an new Android phone and it's not on the compatibility list for the AppRadio2 (which MSRPs for $600).

I'd still do it just for the capability it provides, but just need to know how often they test new phones with the HU (I emailed them).

Thanks for the heads up.

Any issues with installing?

After some research I see there's an app (ARLiberator) to be able to use the unit to fully control the phone for androids. That just made the unit almost a must have now, which also means I can get the base Limited Crosstrek and not have to spring for the in-dash Nav unit.

The install went pretty smooth for the most part, the only time I ran into a little trouble was removing the HVAC linkages because I thought you only had to remove the silver wire from the white plastic (there is pictures of this earlier in the thread), but you actually have to remove the silver wire from the white plastic and also pop the black cable that the silver wire comes out of off of its clip. I'm still waiting for an iOS 6 jailbreak so that I can gain even more control of the headunit, but even stock, the headunit offers a lot of functionality for $200. You may have already done this, but while you wait for a reply from Pioneer, just google the model of your phone and AppRadio and I'm sure there is someone out there who may have tried it (or find an audio shop that has an AppRadio on display and call them up and see if they'll let you come down and hook up your phone to see if it works).

There is a new kit coming out very soon that matches the contour of the front panel better and that you dont have to reuse the factory brackets. I have one of the prototypes from said kit manufacturer that I will be putting in Sunday. I will take pictures and let you guys know how it fits. From the looks of it out of the car I am guessing it is gonna fit nicely. Oh and the guy that designed it there is a subaru guy himself.

With all of the great information contained in the forum and advice from Svxdc, I swapped out head units without a problem.

I recently purchased a 2013 XV Crosstrek premium with the Clarion PF-3386A-A (Subaru part number 86201FJ620) HU in it. I wanted to swap it out for the HU found in the XV Crosstrek limited -Clarion PF-3391A-A. (Subaru part number 86201FJ630). I was fortunate to acquire the upgraded HU at a reasonable price. I believe that both of these radios are also found in the Impreza.

I went to the local Subaru dealer to have them swap it out for me and they said it couldn't be done, due to different wiring harnesses. (I should point out that the radio was never pulled from the car to verify). I also wanted to add a rear backup camera (as the upgraded HU has that capability) but the Subaru dealer told me it was cost prohibitive.

I also went to the local audio shop but they had no idea if the existing wiring harness would work on the upgraded head unit. In all honesty, they were more interested in selling me an aftermarket system.

Well with advice from Svxdc and information from this forum, I tackled the project and it turned out to be an easy "plug & play" swap.

My next project is to install the rear backup camera, which I have already purchased from Subaru. My only issue is finding the correct connectors (8 pin for the HU and 4 pin for the camera). If anyone has these connectors please PM.

thanks

That's the radio I saw in a BRZ the other day. Does it use the 20pin and would it fit In the wrx?

Yes, the new HU has the 20 pin connector.

No Nav, but sat radio ready. If I wanted XM or Sirus I would need to buy / install the appropriate module.

Even though this is my 5th Subaru, I am a newbie when it comes to audio.

Good question. Unfortunately I can't answer it. I installed the radio last week and haven't had a chance to play with it yet. The Crosstrek has become my wife's car - I have only driven it twice.

I told her the other day, maybe I should trade the truck in for another Crosstrek.

Has anyone installed tweeters into the dash? Is wiring already in place, or do you have to run a new set? Also, how do they connect if the HU is only 4 channels out?

...nevermind, found answer in thread.

The factory aux and USB ports can work with an aftermarket head unit. See this post.

Ok I got everything installed (Pioneer AVH-P3400) and working. Ipod, DVD, Radio and CD were all working fine. Took the car for a ride with the DVD in to make sure the by pass was working, pulled in the drive way and now the screen is white. I can here sound from everything but the screen is white. I touch the screen and it goes to black....hit the mode button and it goes to white again. Anybody have any idea what could be wrong or should I just send it back?
