Shifter rattle after TiC Holy Shift Kit install
Installed the TiC Holy Shift kit on my 08 STi yesterday with stock lever.
LOVE the sound of it and the crisp shifting! My question however is that if I drive somewhat hard I get a pretty loud rattle from the shift lever especially in 1st and second gear. Is this normal? If it is, I can live with it. If not, what can be done? I can't tell if it is the reverse lockout that is rattling or something else. Maybe I didn't torque the pivot bushing properly? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

More-than-likely, there is harmonic feed-back coming through the shifter handle.
This is because the shifter handle is one piece whereas the OEM handle is two pieces, but the two are effectively mated together through the use of a rubber or rubberized dampening material. Without the dampening material, you will experience chatter through the handle. You can recheck the torque specs for the pivot bushings, which is 8.7Lb/ft (5 or 6-speed). Additionally, did you lube (relube) the ball and socket of/for the shifter handle? Last edited by Big-E; 07-26-2010 at 10:28 AM. |

Nope I didn't re-lube the ball and socket. I never removed the ball from the socket for the install. I guess I should do this eh? What grease is recommended?
Also just to confirm I am using the OEM shift lever, not an aftermarket lever. |

Lockout cable. Make sure the lug inside the lever isn't pressed against one side. Some grease will help with this.

Ohhh so the cable that is stuck against the lever is rattling against it eh? That makes sense. I hate pulling the center console apart but I guess I have to!

remove knob, use a flashlight, and a long screwdriver to push the lug over to the middle of the pin.

Ha!, yep... the one in my STi buzzed a bit shortly after I bought the car. I 'fixed' it by just stuffing a piece of burlap or something in there to take up the space.

Fixed my rattle by adding some grease between the reverse lock out knob and the shift lever. There was some play between the two and now the grease has kept everything silent
