The rumble itself is not too loud due to the EL headers but present nonetheless. If you just disconnect the muffler at the 2 bolt flange then expect a fair amount of drone. It takes 5 minutes to remove the 14mm bolts. If you like the way it sounds then you know what you need to do. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have ordered what I need to hopefully address the drone issue. I will keep you guys updated with my progress.

I've read another forum member who had unbolted the muffler as well, it creates a nice boxer rumble. I was actually looking to get a muffler shop to custom fabricate me an exhaust system based on aftermarket dimensions and specifications; however, that won't be for a while, since my car is still new.

I want to unbolt my muffler too but wouldn't the exhaust gases melt or wrap the metal/plastic underneath your car, since the gases are still pretty hot still at that point?

i wouldn't think so. seems like it would be pretty easy to just cut off the stock muffler and weld in a different muffler that is the same length.

this is kind of a dumb question, but has anyone replaced their stock license plate lights with LEDs? want that hyper white look the cadillacs have.

Oh I thought you meant you were going to unbolt the muffler and leave it that way. If you replace the stock muffler with an aftermarket one there shouldn't be any problems, I'm assuming its an universal muffler you're going to be using? One issue though, there is no cutout for the muffler on the wagon, so that might be an issue.

i ran a straight pipe on my 03 silverado when i had it and nothing melted. so im not too worried. i will not be replacing the exhaust anytime soon, just unbolting the two bolts. no cutout is needed, just have it dump under the car.

I have a complete LED swap on my car except for the DRL's. It looks nice and is not hard to do.

For those of you that will be unbolting your muffler, you are going to want to secure the muffler away from the pipe coming from the car with some tie straps or remove it completely. Reason being is that it will move back into place and you'll lose the rumble.

Here is the link from Youtube for those that are interested in how it sounds:

easy to do..already done it here...space is tight to work in...and can be tricky getting the cover to snap back in place...but a few minutes each side will work.....gives that nice clean white light look to the plate...

Unbolted it today. Little too loud for my taste. Sounded damn good though.

I'm waiting till 36,000 miles then I'm going to ditch the cats and put a turbo-style muffler in the stock location. I still say the stock exhaust is well built.

I'm interested, got link? Thanks.

I talked to several people and they have said the stock exhaust is well built so I'll most likely wait to modify my exhaust/muffler.

What about buying some longer bolts and putting spacers in between the exhaust and muffler? Think that would produce a noticeable difference without being too loud and still keep it bolted tight and not just having the part hang there?

I called Curt Mfg today and they said they should have one out on the street in one to two weeks. The design is all done but they are waiting on marketing to release it.

That's not a bad idea. Definitely leaving the muffler hanging is not a viable option.

Potentially a lazy newbie question but why can you not just post the link?

Is there some sort of rule here against that? I can not think of an obvious reason.

I would be interested in seeing them.

Cheers

If you are concerned about voiding your warranty then it might not be a bad idea to wait till it expires. Everything I have read, SOA is hard to deal with. With that being said, performing a modification like this should not void your warranty. Check out the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. In a nutshell, SOA cannot deny your warranty claim unless they can prove that any issue you may experience is tied directly to the modification that you did. Not to mention if you do need to go into the dealer for service, just replace the OEM bolts and gasket and no one is the wiser.

If I had to guess, I'd say this is the link:
http://www.car-lab.com/2007-2011-sub...rs-light-lamp/
Looks like they have a 3 wire setup, Ground, Running lights/turn signals and brake lights. Doesn't look like an OEM reflector however I am curious to see how these ones light up.
