factory SS or aftermarket for 2012???
About to order a 12' wrx hatch for my trade in. Should I.order the factory 5spd short shifter or should I go with an aftermarket one. Assuming ones under $100 and.will fit 2012 model.
Off topic: what's up with that 2012 impreza sti rendering I see everywhere? It is obviously not 2012 sti nor the actual impreza???

If you buy one for under $100, the odds of it snapping off in your hand and leaving you stranded are 2:1. Not kidding. At all.
Order this: http://www2.kartboy.com/x4/product.p...4&bestseller=Y Use the word Please in the discount code/coupon area of the ordering process and it will net you 10 or 15% off, but hurry your ass as this code will go away soon. When nuclear war happens there will be cockroaches and Kartboy shifters left. Baleee dat! Renderings should be found in the kitchen from pork, renderings online mean zero. |

I had a Kartboy on my 07 and I know it's quality stuff. I just wanted to see if saving a few buck buying SS and oem fogs on my will be better than overpaying for dealer price.
And this concludes that 11 and 12' uses same parts..correct? Also..will the KB SS also be shorter than oem SS? Buying bushing combo is cheaper than the $200 oem SS already. |

If you like the idea of a little rubber, a little give in the shifter, something to absorb the gear whine, get the factory short shifter, it still uses a rubber bushing, but much firmer than the stock one along with the revised shift geometery. Add the SPT rear rubber bushing if you can.
If you want the clicky-clicky notchy solid feeling, you want the Kartboy with the urethane bushings. |

I totally forgot about KB SS's.
However, even with all the bushing upgrades on a wrx, it still does not compare with stock STI's extra solid "clicky-clicky" For Hondas, they have Mtec race springs that replaces a factory spring part that's softer and it stiffs it up really good. |

I had the factory SS on my 2011 and swapped it out for the kartboy SS plus front and rear bushings - way better, ~30% shorter throw.

Having had all three; factory SS, KB, and Cobb. I would go with the Cobb DA (it has a much more solid feel to it when shifting than the KB) and add the factory SS linkage (not shifter) for a truly awesome combo.
