I love the adaptive cruise control for road trips. In both my Tesla and my parents 2022 Subaru.
Nice review, Kosta. Thanks! My more pedestrian Model 3 feels heavy but the weight is down low which gives a lot of confidence when cornering. It's also pretty cool leaving the house at 80% battery charge, then rolling down the hill to Target and having 82%. Of course that translates into 76% by the time I go back up the hill... Unlike you, I find the lack of engine noise novel, even after a year. It's just nuts that you can't feel or hear an engine when going up a steep hill. It's so quiet and drama free.

I can't stand adaptive cruse control. Next thing you look up and you're going 10 under the speed you want to go with no indication that the car was reducing your speed. They all leave too much room and result in getting cut off by cars. If you're approaching a car in the slow lane and are going to move over to the fast lane to pass, they require you move over so much sooner than really necessary, making you look like the dork driving in the fast lane without passing. Unless I'm on a single lane road, I much prefer the old-school set a speed and go. Cancel when you approach a slow moving vehicle, pass, re-set your speed. But then again, I actually like driving.

When I Turo'd a P100D down in the Florida Keys, the 'smart' cruise control seemed great since we were all on single-lane roads and it kept you running into anybody in front of you until you got a chance to pass. But if I'm driving on multiple lane roads and need to pass, if I don't get over into the passing lane really early, the cc will kill the momentum (usually right as I start moving over), which is really obnoxious and actually requires more intervention to properly deal with. And with the Model S, for some reason they don't let you change the follow distance using the steering wheel controls like they do on the Y/3. And don't get me started on phantom braking. Dumb cruise control turns out to be a lot more intuitive, determinate, and even relaxing (as well as more enjoyable to work with for me). |

I like driving, too, but on a straight freeway it gets boring fast. My car has the ability to change the distance between 2,3, and 4 seconds. And there's also this newfangled thing on the dash: a speedometer. It's super handy for letting you know how fast yer car is going. If I'm approaching someone going a lot slower, I'll pass when safe. You can still smash the go pedal to speed up when you're in cruise. |

I love the Ascent's adaptive cruise. It freakin works.
Great for 3-4hr road trips, great for rural, great for small towns. |

In-before the anti-EV crowd gets ahold of this story...
C/N: Tesla semi catches fire on major freewayn closing it down for most of the day (lots of truck fires happen on I-80 in the Sierras due to heavy loads going down steep grades) |

FSD keeps constant speed by automatically passing people on the highway.
