Default Closed ROTA Thread

Well, yeah, that did get a little rediculous. I am curious as to why thread that generated so much interest and opinion got closed, as opposed to so many other pointless posts here. Is thought provoking dangerous? Since when?

Sorry to all the rota owners out there if I offended you. I think they are fine wheels for 1g eclipse or a 90 civic hachback that can be bought for $1500. My issue is that so many Sube owners, who are clearly not opposed to spending serious money on their cars, buy Rotas as cheap alternatives to better wheels.

I am selling my wheels because I have had them for over a year and am interested in getting somthing new. Not sure what that has to do with my Rota complaint.

Kumho Tires are great tires. Good wet/dry weather traction, lasted for a year and a half on my hard-driven rig, and they are not too expensive.

TIRES are a wear item=cost is big factor. WHEELS are a durable item=cost SHOULD be a one-time factor. If you guys are jacking up your wheels THAT often, learn how to drive better.

Last point......If I said, "You can have a free set of ROTA wheels, or a free set of SSR wheels" which would you choose? Cost not being a factor, the BETTER wheels, right? So, they are better, hence worth more money. I would rather pay more for the SSRs and get a better wheel, and you guys would rather skimp and get Rotas. Let me guess, you buy a cheaper back-busting matress and the cheaper less efficient dishwasher, too.

This post will prolly get locked/flamed/booted/deleted, but I thought I should reply to all the silly comments that were made.

I sleep on a Shifman and have a Bosch stainless dishwasher.

And I have Rota wheels on my STI.

You don't have a clue. Give it up.

Wow, you really are pathetic. Who cares!!! Why do you care if other people buy rotas? The WRX is not an expensive car. You are the only one that has made silly comments, and I hope this thread gets locked too. Your post was one of the most pointless threads I have ever seen on NASIOC

Ok, so I am clearly not going to be able to get through here.....maybe I am just not able to put my thoughts down properly....maybe I am just outnumbered. I know many of the people I talk to share my feelings.

Looks like I know how to stir you guys up tho

Whatever. I will not post on the issue again.

People buy Rotas for the same reason. You feel that the performance tradeoffs associated with Kumhos vs better tires is worth it yet for some reason you can't see why people would accept tradeoffs with their wheels. Why don't you get it?

Just because they cost more doesn't make them better. When you buy a wheel (and anything really) you pay for more than just the manufacturing cost. You pay for marketing, overhead (all the people needed to manage the company), design, etc. Also, many wheels are not manufactured in large quantities which puts a premium on the cost the consumer pays (supply v. demand). Some wheels are of a different construction (forged, semi-solid forged, etc.), but many high-dollar aftermarket wheels aren't. They're cast, just like Rotas.

Neil.

I try not to be too harsh or get involved in these sort of posts, but you are an ignorant idiot! You think Kumho 712's are decent tires and then say that Rotas aren't worthy because they don't cost enough. You have no clue. Tires are the single most important performance piece on the car, and you're willing to skimp on them, but not wheels. It's scary how backward you're thinking is and how blinded you are by your own idiocy.

because it was turning into an attack YOU thread ...... without any serious discussion of the opinion or facts just like this one will shortly

oh, and Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's are bottom of the barrel performance tire and if I owned a Supra I would sue Kumho for insulting the performance level of my car

Good one, Tire-Rack! I wonder if we could sue Subaru for the blight that is the RE-92!? (cue: throngs of people who love those tires! )

any-hoo...

I'm betting the dude who started this thread is a youngster who's just 'into' blingy wheels. That's all fine and dandy, but arguing that cheap-tires + expensive wheels is a smart buy is just not sound thinking.

I would think a person, such as he, who buys top-end wheels would wish to have the best doggone tires out there, if not to 'match' the bling-factor of said components, then (more to the point) to -ensure- that his car had the very best grip available to avoid sliding into curbs when driving in a spirited fashion/dodging potholes/etc... ??

Bah... to each his own I guess.

Ya know...after reading all of these posts I have come to the rather (for me at least) shocking realization that rims are truly wear items.

The snobbery that goes on with forged rims is something I want no part of.

I cant afford SSR's.

If Rota didnt exist, I'd be stuck with buying used stock rims from people.

In all reality...I got the SSR's when I had some extra $$$ to blow and, as I have said several times before....I would have no problem putting Rota's on my car as my next set of wheels.
Black with a polished rim, 17x8 that fit over 4-pots, please

I'm lucky that I have never 'curbed' or bent my SSR's....and I may have just jinxed myself and WILL tomorrow....

Call me vain but it just does not feel right buying something from a company that makes money from copying others. i.e. stealing designs.

I won't call you vain, but how about naive?

Do you think Subaru came up with the idea of horizontally opposed engines on their own? Better sell your car right away!

I don't know about stealing anything....but Rota makes OEM wheels for several large auto manufacturers, and if what I read somewhere recently was correct....they make 30,000 wheels every MONTH.

and everything is a copy of a copy anyway....with common materials and manufacturing processes and the wheel sizes necessary...there aren't a lot of original designs left anyway.

Wow.

Hey, Mr. BrainDead or whatever your name is -- I know you're still subscribed.

How come you didn't answer my questions in the original thread (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=535727)?

Here, I'll repost them for you. I'd love to hear your answers.

I'll leave these two statements to stand on their own. You seem to have some sort of issue with Rota. What is it?

Is this your issue? Please explain how Rota is 'copying' and 'undercutting', and who you feel they are harming by their supposed actions.

Do you have the same issue with Kumho Tires, and Falken? After all, they both produce round black objects that appear to 'copy' and 'undercut' companies like Goodyear.

Please illuminate us on how competition and choice in the marketplace is bad.
All you seem to be able to do is cast dispersions upon wheels that aren't up to your 'standards'.

Default grip about kumho 712's

Why the hell do so many guys spend like $20K on a car, $3K on turbos and engine stuff, $1000+ on suspension, $2000+ on wheels and spend less then $400 for kumho 712's?

I mean the one thing in direct contact with the rd keeping all that money going in the direction intended......and they go cheap..... by getting one of the cheapest summer tires avail

Kumho's are fine for 1g eclipse or a 90 civic hachback that can be bought for $1500

No offense mr disibility.....but you need a reality check

Rota the company has stood the test of the time with their product and service. Their products have stood up and proven themselves for their intended use, street use. They have gone beyond that by performing adequately 99.99% of the time on the AutoX circuit, where they were not designed for.

i'd say they are a bargain. Sort of like an STi.

i just want to know how many Toll points the Mods have given him.
