sure thing buddy, sure thing.

(you couldnt be further from the truth)

I will say this, the truck is extremely capable and the combination of texas oil money + capability == videos like the ones posted on this page.

For my money, i would not drive a jeep or any other 4x4 (maybe a power wagon, but i dont like the interiors or the freeway ride). The raptor drives like a dream, is super comfortable, can go 98% of the places a jeep can go on a jeep trail, and can easily handle 100mph on a dirt road in in the open desert. (hell i have hit 80mph on dirt roads in virginia with little pucker factor)

There simply isnt any other vehicle that can do all of that in one package. The "its the new srt4" reference of course is troll bait pure and simple. So keep on trollin i suppose, but you should really drive one in its element before you attempt to speak authoritatively on any one subject.

SRT4's were fun for the price point if you just wanted to do peg legged burnouts and beat up on hondas at the strip.

I do think the SRT-4 is a cheap shot, but I really enjoy the jeep on open roads, even with the MTRs. I think having the 2dr model and more hp makes a huge difference.

While the SRT-4 comment is unfair, your statement is only true of places that lack decent trails. A Raptor can navigate maybe 30% of the "Jeep" trails in Colorado. A Jeep Unlimited / Brocoma can navigate maybe 80% of those same trails. While impressive, the gargantuan nature of the Raptor caused it to fall from my short list of vehicles when I was shopping during mid-2011.

You completely misunderstand what I've said.
The statement was only comparing the level of abuse/hooning that it attracts. All of the various jumping videos I've seen would make me...hesitant to buy used. Just like how any SRT-4 you see for sale likely has been through three motors and six transmissions.

I lurve me some Raptor.

x eleventybillion.

as much as i am in love with the raptors and would probably murder a contributing member of society to have one, that statement is horse ****.

the raptor is in no way comparable to a jeep / built toyota in any way on the majority of the trails offroaders actually go.

Went wheeling with some of the Raleigh locals. Not another lift or locker in the group.

Had fun anyway...

Umm as someone who 1. Has a raptor.

2. Has gone every single place minus one (drive up a wall) cliff that my buddies new/old rubicons and jeeps have gone.

I can speak somewhat authoritatively on the topic. Are there places that a jeep with its dramatic angle of approach can go that i cant with out damaging my skid/bumper. SURE AS HELL ARE

Is that going to stop me from smashing my front bumper/skid? Probably not.

(i have replaced my front bumper once already)

So yeah, it may take a bit more balls and you be smashing **** up but the raptor can go just about every damn place any of my buddies are willing to take their jeeps. Actually i lied, there was another small twisty trail i didnt bother trying because i didnt want to trim/cut trees or blaze my own path. (which i have done serveral times before)

For the record once my travel slows down for work ill be fixing the angle of approach problem a bit.

I was misunderstanding, but you are correct the level of stupid you can get into in this truck is pretty amazing. I have yet to see anyone in a wrangler doing rolling burnouts or donuts on dry pavement like i have seen the raptor guys doing.

Could be will depend on a few things.

1. Ability/willingness to smash **** up.
2. Ability/willingness to blaze new trails.

Basically if a hummer h1 can fit, a raptor can. I will say this I HATE THE FRONT BUMPER on these damn trucks. The angle of approach sucks balls for a truck with this ability.

I wish i was still living in norcal, id take this whale on the rubicon just to shut you guys up.

A Raptor would look eleventybillion times worse than mine if they attempted 98% of the trails me and you do.

While that is all fine and well, I am speaking more towards narrow, tree-lined trails and hairpins that require even short wheelbase vehicles (2-door Jeeps and Samurais) to do three or four point turns. A H1 won't fit. A JKU or Brocoma is too long. I'm simply pointing out limitations and what constituted my buying decision.

I'm pretty sure that everyone who has commented on the topic has given the Raptor it's just desserts. I recognize that my Jeep isn't going to break 75 mph (on any surface) and I don't get bent when a Raptor owner points it out to me.

Yeah those are the types of trails i get the hatchet/ax/saw out and start getting creative (if it is private land where i have permissions of course). Or i start practicing my reverse skills. You are absolutely correct, and i will say this.

IT IS NERVE RACKING DRIVING A RAPTOR ON A JEEP TRAIL! That being said its fun as hell and a bit more challenging when you have to plan your angles 2, 3, or 4 turns out. It is also EXTREMELY rewarding fitting in between two large trees with 1/8th of an inch on each side of your folded in mirrors.

That being said, the raptor is WAY WAY WAY more fun on high speed roads/fields/etc. I just really am not a fan of ignorant "a raptor cant do that because its not a jeep" bull****. Most raptors will never see a jeep trail because their owners worry about the paint or body, so i can understand that view. But for those who like to test their trucks and driving skills they are extremely capable vehicles.

Yeah but you guys have an easier go at it due to width and size.

I still bust the raptor guys balls every time i see them about them being a bunch of ***** and not scratching up their rides.

Troof. I had a customer ask me the other day what tires she should get and what size. She wanted to look "cooler".

As far as the Raptor on a jeep trail comment, I can tell you without a doubt that your buddies are not on that hard of trails. The trails that we go on can barley fit a ZJ like mine no matter a bigger wider truck. You cant just cut rocks and land out of the way. You actually have to go where everyone goes.

I get a lot of guys with a case of the itis wanting tours thru Jeep trails. I have led, FJ's, Hummers, Land Cruisers, etc...

They are all very capable vehicles in their own right, but are too heavy, too wide, low turning radius, not geared right.

The last bunch took about 100k in damage between the lot, and they followed me on a class 5 (of 10) trail.. that I drove while sitting on my rollbar with the trottle control on, and steering with my feet.

Raptors are meant for being pseudo desert racing trucks... its like taking my rockcrawler at 130 mph whoops... Not that it will go above 80mph but you get the point.

they are just two different kind of toys there. one is good for high speed off roading, and a jeep is good for harder stuff. i seriously doubt i will ever see a raptor on any of the hammer trails other then the roads to the trail.

Sounds good to me, I have very little interest in jeep trails or rock crawling. If going slow is the smart way to do it, I'd rather be doing something else.

Its the technical challenge of placing your tire within an inch of where it needs to be or you go belly up.

Nothing like perching on the top of a 20foot dropoff .
