Driving from SLC to CO Springs?
I'm taking a road trip to the Springs of CO. I was wondering which route is the most scenic and has things to do/see on the way. I'll be taking two days to make the trip.

How far are you willing to detour? There are some awesome routes from slc to co springs.
Are you wanting to stop at places? Or just drive through? When are you going? Do you want great roads or roads that will be plowed? (they usually fail at plowing I-70 though anyways in colorado. |

- Leaving soon - Willing to stop - Anyroad will do, I've got snow tires so conditions are not an issue. - Willing to detour up to a hundred miles or so, taking I-70 |

When I picked up my STI in CO Springs, I drove this route home. It was a very nice drive.

That would probably be pretty nice as well.. instead of hitting i70 and following that into Denver, you could take highway 24 south then cut east over to Co Springs.

I would do this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,13.348389&z=7 Be sure to stop at arches for an hour in Moab (assuming you havent), it is a toss-up between ouray and telluride, but I think the drive through Ouray is nicer. Leadville is pretty cool because it is so high up, but it is a little bit out of the way. Make sure once you get to C Springs, to stop at garden of the gods. |

Denver isnt horrible when it comes to traffic, but the scenery near denver, and then the drive down to colorado springs from denver is OK. It will easily be the worst scenery on the whole trip from utah. Like the other guy said, if you are looking to go through northern CO, I would drop down on 24 through leadville, and then hop over towards springs near buena vista.

I did the 40 route to overnight to Steamboat. Dropped south through breck, cripple creek then east to C Springs. Ran out of time to do B.Vista. Fun trip! Way home will be the south route through Silverton, and arches.

If you want to bypass denver you can take C470 from I70 and you will end up on I25 south of Denver. I70 is very scenic, but this time of year there is heavy snowfall around the Eisenhower tunnel, and subsequently I70 usually gets shut down frequently. If they shut down I70, Loveland pass is close to the tunnel and you can go around by taking it. Loveland pass is one of those roads where if you have a camera, bring it.
