Default Process west TMIC 08+ WRX Install Install Instructions

I knew the install wouldn't be too bad but I think an install how to thread is needed. Since when you receive the box with all the goodies inside it comes with NO INSTRUCTIONS.

Stock photos of what is included with the kit

I hope this guide helps give you a idea of what is involved, how much time it will take, tools needed.

Tools Needed
8mm socket
10mm Socket
12mm socket
14mm socket
clip removal tool (not needed but nice to have for the plastic clips)
flat head and Philips screw driver
extra boost tubing if you have an aftermarket bpv (GFB Response Valve does fit and work on this intercooler)

Time Required
Install of the TMIC + Splitter will take about 2-4 hours (depending on having tools needed, luck with threading a particular pain in the ass bolt, and making sure your clamps are tight)

Part A (Installing the new ducting for the Process West TMIC)

1) Remove the sound dampening material from the hood. This is held in by clips. They will seem like they want to break but all it takes is some good force with a nail remover type tool. Cover hose/turbo openings because those things shoot out like rockets. I just put a blanket over the whole engine bay

http://www.google.com/downloads/pwtmic1.jpg

^^I used that as a guide. I don't know how someone got that because I emailed process west for instructions to no avail.

After removing the material put it aside for later along with the clips you removed. It should look something like this.

2) Remove the plastic clips from the metal part of the intake ducting. This is where having that clip removal tool comes in very handy. After that remove the metal bolts holding the metal ducting to the hood. It makes it easier to install the process west TMIC ducting with this off the car.

This is what it will look like after you finish installing the splitter. Now just time to mount it back on the car.

3) Install the new splitter back on to the hood doing the metal bolts first then the plastic clips

4) Put the sound deadening material back on the hood and cut where it crosses the splitter. It should look something like this when done

5) Here is the finished look of the splitter looking down the scoop. If I did the install again I would paint those nuts black.

Part B (installing the Process West Intercooler)

Remove the stock intercooler and bov/bpv
a. Remove the 2 bolts holding the intercooler to the turbo (circled in green)
b. remove the 2 bolts that hold the stock bov on (circled in blue)
c. remove the worm clamp holding the throttle body hose to the intercooler (circled in red)
d. remove the mounting bolt near the the master cylinder on the BOV side of the intercooler. (not shown in picture)

1) Remove bolt (this is where having leverage helps, this bolt it tight) and then install the bracket supplied with the kit. REMOVE TRANNY DIPSTICK Tighten up the bolt shown but leave the front bolt only hand tightened. You will thank yourself later.

2)Install plate extender from the bracket and hand tighten it. You need it to be somewhat loose for alignment reasons. Also at this time install the larger straight hose to the throttle body. Make sure the clamp is very tight so you don't have it blow off as your doing logs... WOOPS

3)Attach other hose. You will use your stock rubber oring type thing from the stock intercooler. You just have to cut the tab off. Again make sure to tighten the clamp up good.

4) Thread the bolt supplied on the left side FIRST. It is a pain in the ass to thread but it will eventually go in. Having a mirror and a light is a huge help with this. make sure to have the clamp for the hose to the intercooler somewhere on the hose. (this part took me an hour and I was the whole time)

Once you have that side done its simply just a process of tightening all the bolts up, making sure the clamps are tight, attaching your BPV and going and driving the car

In this stock photo from Rallysport direct you can see where the bolt goes in on the back side. You will either get lucky and it will thread of you will be cursing and wanting to punt babies

Nice job, I have the same tmic and love it. Nice pics and walk through. Mine came with a bad set of instructions, but it had some at least.

I feel I still need to add a few things but it should be more than enough info considering it comes with nothing lol.

I love it except when I didn't have that clamp right enough scared the crap out of me haha.

I also like how it got rid of the stock TMIC whistle due to that crappy throttle body hose

Perfect timing - I just ordered my PW TIMIC today, so this will be helpful. Thanks!

I hope it helps you out! It does give off a different sound slightly when installed. Enjoy! It will be great in the summer with heatsoak. Even in the winter my stock one was becoming heatsoaked lol. Guess that is what happens when you are running 20psi.

Doesn't look like you have a strut tower bar, but does it look like one might fit? How much closer to the windshield, if any, does the PW sit compared to the stocker?

I do not have a strut tower bar and I'm not sure it would fit.

Jdub.csu,
Thanks for the very detailed tutorial. Well done!
Perfect timing x2 - I've got one in the garage awaiting install, too.

Can you post some feedback on results/gains once you get 'er all tuned?

BTW - I read (from another forum member) that the SPT strut tower brace will fit behind this intercooler. I'm not sure about other brands, though.

I'm getting all my hardware together tonight for my install & discovered something that may save someone who's installing one of these in the future a bunch of time and cussing ...
Try this:
Before you install the intercooler core, flip it over & install the passenger side bracket (finger tight) to the core BEFORE you install it in the car. This may be easier than installing the bracket to the bell housing and then trying to get that damn mount bolt started underneath the intercooler.
All you got to do once you get the core in position is to line up the passenger side bracket's two mount points on the bell housing & you're in business.

I hated that bolt lol. I'd also recommend using brake cleaner on the hoses (they are oilyish) and makes sure the driver side clamps are good and tight since they are the ones people have boost leak problems with. Or get rid of the crappy clamps they give you and get tbolts

We had 2 identical 2011s on the dyno. Same Cobb OTS Stage 2 91 octane MAPs, mine had the PW and the other had the stock TMIC. Mine made 11 more HP and 25 more ft/lbs on the same dyno, within 30 minutes of each other. We put fans on both intercoolers, and his best pull was the first one, mine was the 3rd one and the PW was still fairly cool to the touch. It's a really great mod!

WashmyScooby,
IMO, the Cobb OTS tune is way too mild for your PW TMIC. I've had one on the OEM TMIC, and I wasn't that impressed.
To get the most out of your new intercooler, you need to either get a custom tune or possibly a Torqued Performance Stage 2 map (and tell Eric you've got the PW TMIC so he can ramp up your timing & boost for more power). I think you'll be really pleased with the results.

I took that pic from the instructions that were included in my PW TMIC kit. It's odd, you're the 2nd person lately that has posted that his kit didn't come with instructions...maybe PW is forgetting to include instructions in some of their shipments. Nice guide, BTW, because PW's instructions aren't too detailed so your guide will give people with less mechanical skills/tools less stress during the install. I would also have preferred the two nuts that you can see in the hood scoop to be black...they kind of reflect light at just the right angles and it's kind of annoying, lol.

Turbo flange: 2.0

Intercooler inlet: 2.5

Intercooler outlet: 2.75

Throttle body: 2.75

These are the T-Bolt Sizes. I highly suggest getting them as the stock worm clamps pop off too easily

When i installed my PW TMIC, the BOV hose was like barely hooked on to the BOV itself, like the hard black plastic hose wasnt long enough, because the TMIC is longer than stock.

Did this happen to u too?

The bov hose is definetly long enough. Just make sure that the hose goes over the pw hose and not under or it

What valve are you using? Because with the stocker it is long enough and for my GFB response valve it is

That's weird because those are the exact sizes I got for t-bolt clamps and they were way too small. With the hose on over the intercooler and throttle body it seemed like the hose expanded alot more and I couldn't even get the tbolt clamps on. I got the tbolt clamps from rallysport also. I actually got 3" for the intercooler outlet and throttle body and it still wouldn't fit. I've kept the worm clamps on and it hasn't been a problem since.

I just installed the PW top mount and it fits with my Perrin strut tower bar. A little less than an inch of clearance.

Mine came with a instruction packet + pictures. Pretty simple. Took me 3 hours to get everything in. The 50-70mm clamp did not fit on the upper passenger IC hose though. Just gonna hit up AZ to pick up a slightly bigger one. Everything fit ok. Broke a few plastic clips while removing the hood liner, luckily I was able to yank the broke tips out otherwise they'd be rolling inside the hood every time I open it!!
